Jackson police investigate death found by officer

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – The Jackson Police Department is investigating a Monday night death.

The incident happened on Booker T. Washington and West Ridgeway Streets.

Jackson Police Chief Dr. RaShall Brackney arrived at the scene and gave a statement to WLBT crews.

According to Brackney, an officer was driving in the area around 8:30 p.m. when they saw a man lying on the ground.

The officer stopped to check on the individual and discovered that the person was dead.

The individual is an approximately 40-year-old man.

The coroner was called to the scene, according to Brackney.

Officials do not have a cause of death and are investigating in conjunction with the coroner.
