JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) -First Alert Weather Day today across central Mississippi with the potential for widespread severe weather, especially north of I-20. A strong system moving in from the west will bring increasing storms late today with the greatest coverage tonight. A Level 3/ 5 Enhanced risk is in place for areas along and north of I-20.
Timing: Late afternoon through the overnight hours, with the highest risk this evening and tonight
Main threats• Damaging straight line winds as storms organize into lines• Large hail, especially with stronger storms ahead of the line• A few brief tornadoes possible near the boundary or within the line• Heavy rain with 2 to 4 inches possible and localized flash flooding
The severe threat drops off quickly farther south.
Wednesday the risk shifts south and decreases with improving conditions later in the day. Thursday looks quieter with lower humidity.
Late week into the weekend, scattered storms return, but most should stay below severe levels.
