MADISON, Miss. (WLBT) – Magnolia Heights captured its seventh consecutive MAIS baseball championship with a 9-1 victory over Madison-Ridgeland Academy in Game 2 of the series.

MRA needed the win to force a Game 3, but the Chiefs never gave the Patriots a chance.

Magnolia Heights jumped ahead 2-0 after the first inning and extended the lead in the second. With a runner on base, Carter Drumheller ripped a hit down the right field line, allowing Brannan Overstreet to race home from second and make it 3-0.

Top 100 prospect Cole Prosek dominated on the mound for the Chiefs, striking out the side in the second inning. Prosek also made his presence felt at the plate in the fourth inning with a two-run home run to right field that extended the lead to 5-0.

MRA avoided the shutout when Alex Lambert hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, but the Patriots were unable to mount a late comeback.

The loss ended MRA’s first championship series appearance since 2022.

MRA coach Chad Lipscomb reflected on the season despite falling short of a championship.

“It was a great group of seniors. It’s eight seniors. I’ve been with them a lot, even coached some of them through summer ball, so it’s been a relationship that’s been grown over the last three or four years,” Lipscomb said. “Unfortunately, we just came up short a hair at the end, but it was a group I felt very confident that could get here. If they play to their potential and just trust the process, then they could get here and they did. They had a great season. We broke several single season records, career records.. and for our program, it’s just something I can’t be more proud of them.”

Magnolia Heights adds to its trophy case with the win, taking home its 16th State Championship in school history.
