JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Major League Baseball’s number-one prospect, who is a native of Jackson, is set to make his MLB debut.
On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Pirates announced that Konnor Griffin, 19, will make his debut this weekend. They play the Baltimore Orioles.

Although listed as a shortstop/outfielder, it was not announced what position the Jackson Prep grad will play.
However, it has been reported by ESPN that Griffin will make his debut in Friday’s home opener.
Griffin has impressed on the Pirates’ Triple-A affiliate, going 7-for-16 at the plate with three stolen bases to start the season. He was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.
Friday’s home opener against the Orioles is scheduled to begin at 3:12 p.m.
