Former Mississippi State player, Super Bowl champion announces retirement

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A former Mississippi State football player and Super Bowl champion announced his retirement from the NFL.

On Monday, All-Pro cornerback Darius Slay made that announcement on X, writing that he has reached the time for a “new chapter” and that he’s “ready to turn the page.”

Slay was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2013 in the second round and spent several seasons there before being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020.

The six-time Pro Bowler won a Super Bowl in 2024 with the Eagles before playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers at the end of his career.

Slay had 655 tackles, 28 interceptions, two forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, and six touchdowns over the course of his NFL career.

At Mississippi State, he recorded 64 tackles, six interceptions, and two touchdowns in two seasons.
