JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) -We are heading into a more active stretch across central Mississippi with several opportunities for strong to severe storms over the next several days.
Friday is a day to watch and remains the primary concern based on the latest information as a cold front approaching from the northwest will interact with a warm, unstable air mass already in place. This setup will support thunderstorms capable of becoming strong to severe, especially across the Delta and areas along and north of the I-20 corridor.
The main threats will be damaging wind gusts, hail, and brief heavy rainfall.
The threat does not end there. On Saturday, storms may shift a bit farther south, but scattered thunderstorms are still expected, and a few could remain strong. By Sunday into Sunday night, the atmosphere may recover enough to bring another round of storms into the region, though confidence in severity and coverage is still lower at this point.
Looking ahead, Monday night into Tuesday could become our next First Alert period. Forecast models continue to show a stronger disturbance moving in along with increasing wind shear and instability. If the atmosphere is not too disrupted by earlier storms, this could support a more organized severe weather threat.
Overall, Friday stands out as the most immediate concern, but the pattern stays active with repeated storm chances and the risk for severe weather continuing early next week.
