JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A man is facing multiple charges after Capitol Police say he fired at officers during a chase in Jackson on Tuesday.
Capitol Police officers tried to stop a vehicle with no license plate around 2:44 p.m. on Terry Road near Santa Clair Street, authorities said. The driver did not stop, and two passengers jumped out and ran into a wooded area.
Police say the driver shot at officers before wrecking the vehicle on Woodbine Street and running into the woods.
Capitol Police K-9 officers responded and located the driver, identified as 41-year-old Stanley Smith. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Smith is charged with felony fleeing, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm.
No arrest has been made for the second suspect.
Capitol Police said no further comment will be made at this time.
