JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Officials with Atmos Energy were on the scene Thursday afternoon to repair a main break near the intersection of Old Canton Road and Ridgewood Road in North Jackson.
Atmos Vice President Bobby Morgan said a crew unrelated to Atmos damaged a natural gas line at 5102 Old Canton, prompting the response.
“As a precaution, one resident was evacuated by emergency personnel. Atmos Energy personnel were dispatched, and our crews remain on the scene to make any necessary repairs,” Morgan said in a statement shortly after the leak was reported.
Portions of Ridgewood and Old Canton were closed so crews could make repairs.
Jackson Police, Capitol Police, and the Jackson Fire Department also responded.
“The safety of our communities, our employees, and our system is our highest priority,” Morgan said, thanking responders for their support.
Morgan, meanwhile, said the most common cause of outside natural gas leaks is related to construction.
Anyone who believes they have nicked, scraped, or dented a natural gas pipeline is asked to call 911, and then Atmos’ 24-hour emergency line at (866) 322-8667.
