JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Mississippi Makers Fest was back for another year bringing a combination of art and music right here in the capital city. Whether you wanted to check out the local artwork or listen to some good tunes. Makers Fest had it all.

Kimberlee Cooper one of the fests organizers said, “All of our vendors are from the state of Mississippi, and it’s just a way to showcase all the talent here.”

50 vendors and food trucks packed the lawn outside the Two Mississippi Museums Saturday, which featured music, art, and plenty of smiles.

For one local vendor, it was her first time at Makers Fest — sharing custom quilts and meeting new customers.

Ravin Lovett the owner of Ravin Lovett LLC said, “It’s been a lot of fun getting to know people, even the more who [are] here, as well as introducing myself and my quilts and my work to people.

For local artists like Lovett, events like this mean everything.

“It’s very rewarding because you sometimes don’t have opportunities every day to do things like this. So this gives you a wider, broader audience. And then you have opportunities like this. But I really do enjoy events and festivals because you get to meet people from everywhere, not just Mississippi. I met someone from Dallas, Texas today.”

Brittani Dennis came out to Makers Fest from Florence; she said she was drawn by the pottery and hand-blown glass. She said she hopes Makers Fest becomes a yearly Jackson tradition.

“I think it’s something that they need to continue doing. It does bring a lot of people together and it does give everybody else a chance to see what kind of artists we do have here in Mississippi and in the Jackson area,” she said.

Festival organizers said they were hopeful to have the expansion venue ready for this year’s fest but said they look to have that open next year with the goal of bringing more vendors.
