RIDGELAND, Miss. (WLBT) – A woman was shot in the head at the Pinebrook Apartment Complex in Ridgeland Friday, according to the Ridgeland Police Department

Ridgeland PD responded to the 100 block of Pine Knoll Drive, at 1:53 a.m. about a person reportedly being shot in the head.

When they arrived, officers encountered Dannquarious Deuntea Byest, age 23.

Officers entered the apartment and noticed Autumn Diane Brookae Shanks, 21, dead in the bedroom.

Byest has been charged with first-degree murder and will be held with no bond at the Madison County Detention Center.

Ridgeland PD stated, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and loved ones of Ms. Shanks. Law enforcement feels the weight of such a tragic loss and we mourn alongside this family.”
