JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A tip from an out-of-state agency may help Jackson police in the city’s latest homicide investigation.
Friday morning, JPD said they found Gerald Wallace, 56, shot once in the head in his front yard.
JPD says the incident happened around 2:30 a.m Friday on West Pearl Street, a few blocks away from Blackburn Middle School.
Initially, police said Wallace’s gray Chevy Silverado was missing, but Friday afternoon, JPD said the vehicle was found in a neighboring state, and the driver, detained.
The exact relationship between the suspect and victim is unknown, but police believe they knew each other.
The suspect, 38-year-old Millian Catrice Tate of Jackson, Mississippi, had three small children all under the age of 12 with her.
Officers say they found blood on Tate and inside of her vehicle. While investigating, they also found a semi-automatic pistol suspected to be the weapon used during the homicide.
The vehicle is being processed for evidence.
Tate is charged with three counts of reckless endangerment and several traffic violations. Additionally, Tate is awaiting extradition for capital murder charges from JPD.
JPD has yet to release a motive or any other details right now.
