Travis Hunter wins 2024 Heisman Award
Hunter received 552 first place votes to beat out Ashton Jeanty.
NEW YORK (WLBT) – Former Jackson State and current Colorado receiver and defensive back Travis Hunter has been named the 2024 Heisman Award winner.
Hunter and JSU made headlines in 2021 when he, ranked as the number one recruit in the country by 247sports, signed to play for coach Deion Sanders.
Following coach Prime’s move to Colorado, Hunter followed him to Boulder.
This season, Hunter was one of the best players in the country on both offense and defense. As a receiver, he had 92 catches for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns. On defense, had 11 pass breakups and four interceptions, allowing just 22 receptions and one touchdown on 39 targets.
Between his time on offense and defense, Hunter averaged 113 snaps per game in 2024.
Hunter received 552 first place votes, 261 second place votes, and 2,231 total voting points. Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty (2,017 points) finished second, Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel (516) finished third, and Miami quarterback Cam Ward (229) finished fourth.
