Texas high school says students will foot massive bill for destructive senior prank

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A senior prank at Frisco Memorial High School this week got out of hand, causing thousands of dollars in damage and forcing classes to be canceled.

In Frisco, Texas, the Frisco Independent School District approved a senior prank that involved a small group of students and a large number of Post-it notes, but that’s not what took place, according to FOX 4 Dallas.

A letter sent to parents from school administrators said that a small group of students was approved to place Post-it notes with messages on the walls of Memorial High School as part of their senior prank.

Instead, the school administrators said that students vandalized the campus in a situation that “devolved rapidly,” adding that the Frisco Police and Fire Departments had to get involved.

A small group of students from Memorial High School was approved to use Post-it notes on the walls to decorate and place messages around the campus as part of their senior prank last night. Staff members were on site to monitor students, but the situation devolved rapidly, and the Frisco Police and Fire Departments became involved. Students vandalized the campus to a point that classes are not able to be held at MHS for the remainder of the week,” school administrators said in the letter.

The school is closed on Thursday and Friday because of air quality issues, according to the report.

Administrators also said that damage from the event is “estimated in the thousands of dollars,” adding that students who were involved will foot the bill.

“Damage is estimated in the thousands of dollars and includes paint on the walls, destruction of furniture, discharged fire extinguishers throughout campus and more. Every surface on the 300,000 sq. ft. campus must be cleaned, including the walls, ceilings and floors. Frisco ISD will hold the students responsible for costs associated with the clean up,” administrators said.

Dem Rep. Beatty blames White supremacy for Dallas Korean hair salon shooting, but suspect is Black

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) blamed White supremacy for last week’s shooting at a Dallas Korean hair salon, but the suspect charged with carrying out the attack is Black.

Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Ohio, made the claim at a Thursday press conference outside the Capitol that saw House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., in attendance.

“On Monday, three people in a Korean-owned hair salon in Dallas were gunned by yet another White supremacy replacement theorist,” Beatty said to the assembled crowd.

DALLAS POLICE CHIEF: KOREATOWN HAIR SALON SHOOTING SUSPECT ‘MOTIVATED BY HATE’

“We are sick of the pipeline from racist rhetoric to racist violence,” Beatty continued.

In addition to botching the date of the shooting, Beatty got a key detail wrong about the “White supremacy replacement theorist” charged with attacking the Dallas salon: the suspect is Black.

Beatty’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Jeremy Smith, 37, was booked into the Dallas County jail and is charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He allegedly walked into the Hair World Salon on May 11 and opened fire on the seven people inside with a .22 caliber rifle, Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia told reporters.

Smith got off 13 shots before fleeing into a minivan, he said.

The FBI said it is investigating the shooting as a hate crime. Surveillance video captured Smith’s van with specific details and determined it to be a 2004 Honda Odyssey, authorities said.

An arrest warrant affidavit said Smith drove the minivan with a paper license plate that matched several of the numbers seen by witnesses. He also admitted to being in the area on the day of the shooting, Fox Dallas reported. A vehicle crash that occurred two years ago with an Asian male resulted in him having panic attacks and “delusions” when around people of Asian descent, Garcia said.

Smith was also fired from his previous job at an Ulta Beauty warehouse for attacking his Asian boss, the document states.

Dallas police chief: Koreatown hair salon shooting suspect ‘motivated by hate’

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A man suspected of wounding three Korean women in a Dallas hair salon during a shooting authorities are investigating as a hate crime was arrested Tuesday and is suspected in a recent string of shootings at or near Asian businesses, authorities said.

“We believe the shooting was intentional,” said Garcia. “The actions and the investigation has revealed to us that this was motivated by hate.”

Texas law enforcement searches for escaped convicted murderer on horseback; reward increased

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Law enforcement officials took to horseback on Sunday in the search for 46-year-old Gonzalo Lopez, a convicted murderer who escaped from a prison transport bus on Thursday after stabbing the driver and fleeing on foot.

Lopez escaped in Leon County, a rural area in between Dallas and Houston that has about 16,000 residents.

“We have no reason to believe he has left the area,” the Leon County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday. “There is no evidence to support that, at this time.”

Lopez is serving a life sentence for kidnapping a man and killing him with a pickax in Hidalgo County near the U.S.-Mexico border in 2006, as well as attempted murder for shooting a police officer in Webb County a couple of years earlier, according to Fox 4 Dallas.

Dallas shooting in Koreatown possible hate crime, police chief now says

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

After authorities initially ruled out hate as a possible motive behind a shooting incident at a Dallas hair salon this week, where three people were injured, a police chief said the incident may have been a hate crime.

Police Chief Eddie García announced Friday that the shooting at the Hair World Salon in Dallas Wednesday might have been racially motivated, the Dallas Morning News reported.

It may also be connected to two other race-related shootings in the city, according to the police chief.

THREE INJURED IN DALLAS TRIPLE SHOOTING INSIDE HAIR SALON

On Thursday, Garcia said his office could “confidently say that hate was not a motivating factor” in the shooting but the office changed its view amid an “ongoing investigation and a consistent review of officer reports made by the department’s crime analysis unit.”

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson similarly addressed the possibility Wednesday’s shooting and the previous incidents may have been targeted attacks on the Asian American community.

Johnson called the incident “chilling and deeply disturbing” and said the city “stands with” the victims, who each suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

“I want our city’s Asian American community — which has appallingly faced increasing vitriol in recent years — to know that the City of Dallas and the people of Dallas stand with them,” the mayor said, the Dallas Morning News reported.

The suspect in Wednesday’s attack fled the scene in a red minivan, which is connected to two other drive-by shootings, including one the day before about 25 miles from the hair salon, Garcia said.

The other incident occurred on April 2, in the same area as the hair salon, he added.

Anti-CRT candidates win Dallas-area school elections, say former teachers ‘in disbelief’ over woke curriculum

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Parents who ran campaigns against teaching critical race theory won Dallas-area school board elections, telling “Fox & Friends First” Monday that residents are rejecting politics in classrooms and “sexualization” of curriculum.

“We knocked on 9,000 doors. So you can imagine we had literally hundreds of conversation with parents, whether they just moved here or lived here for a long time were empty-nesters. My favorite were teachers who retired, they would look at us in disbelief,” Carroll ISD school board trustee Andrew Yeager told “Fox & Friends First.”

“And they would see what was happening in neighboring school districts. Please tell me, we don’t have our school here that we love with the tradition of excellence with or age-inappropriate material in our schools. It was the greatest concern. That is why I think Alex and myself had a huge win with 71% of the vote.”

DALLAS-AREA CRITICAL RACE THEORY OPPONENTS WIN BIG IN SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION

The candidates were backed by conservative political action committees and won their races in the Fort Worth area suburban school board races.

“Every one of its candidates won, according to unofficial results early Sunday with all vote centers reporting. Candidates in the Carroll school district backed by Southlake Families PAC — founded by Tim O’Hare, the Republican nominee for Tarrant County judge — won big,” Fort-Worth Star Telegram reported.

Grapevine-Colleyville ISD school board candidate Tammy Nakamura said any time an incumbent was on the ticket, residents “wanted to get rid of them.”

“I think they wanted some new blood to get rid of the stuff in our schools,” Nakamura told Todd Piro.

Carroll ISD school board candidate Alex Sexton said education needs to get back to the basics and “virtually every parent” wanted teachers to focus on the fundamentals.

“That is what we ran on. We have strong messaging and the community responded to it.”

Texas concert shooting leaves one dead, 11 others wounded

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Gunfire erupted at a Dallas, Texas, rap concert Sunday, leaving one dead and at least 11 others wounded.

Dallas police responded at approximately 12:13 a.m. to a call about shots fired at an event billed as a trail ride and concert located at 5050 Cleveland Road. Officers located Kealon Dejuane Gilmore, 26, lying near the stage with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said 11 other individuals were transported by either private vehicles or ambulances to different hospitals. One of the victims was in critical condition, while the other victims were in stable condition as of 11:50 a.m. Sunday morning, when police provided their most recent update.

SACRAMENTO SHOOTING: MULTIPLE SHOOTERS, 6 DEAD; STOLEN GUN RECOVERED AT SCENE

“A preliminary investigation determined that at the event, one individual fired a gun into the air, then another unknown individual fired a gun in the crowd’s direction,” the Dallas Police Department said.

In its initial update, the police department said at least three of the shooting victims were juveniles.

The investigation into the possible motive and circumstances of the shooting is ongoing, police said. Anyone with information is urged to contact Homicide Unit Det. Christopher Anderson at 214-671-3616 or c.anderson@dallascityhall.com and refer to the case number, 057740-2022.

No arrests were immediately announced in connection to the shooting.

“Last night’s violence was horrific and unacceptable. I am praying for the victims, and I look forward to our police department bringing those responsible to justice,” Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said in a statement to WFAA. “Public safety remains our top priority, and I will be conferring with Police Chief Eddie Garcia to see what more can be done to stop this kind of violence in our city.”

Witnesses described to Fox 4 how the sound of gunfire prompted panic and large crowds of people ran from the rural lot. At the time of the shooting, Dallas Fire-Rescue had one engine company already at the scene responding to a separate incident, and fire personnel were forced to use ATVs to move the shooting victims because traffic blocked the ambulance’s access to the scene, police told the outlet.

The concert was expected to be headlined by Memphis-based rapper Big Boogie, but WFAA reported that, according to a post on his Instagram account, the shooting happened before he arrived.

Fliers for the event said that gates opened at the rural lot at noon, horses and ATVs were welcome and children under age 10 would be admitted for free. WFAA reported that fliers advertised that Dallas police officers would be at the concert working alongside 60 security personnel, but the department is looking into whether those claims are accurate, as off-duty cops must receive approval to work security.

After the shooting, the organizer of the event released a statement on behalf of Epic Easter officials reiterating that they took safety precautions by having Dallas police and security personnel on scene.

“Our goal was to organize a positive event for and by our people. We took the necessary steps to offer safety by having Dallas Police officers and security personnel on scene. Additionally, emergency officers and vehicles were on standby,” the statement shared to Instagram Sunday read. “However, some things were still out of our control. Our team did not expect a turn out of that capacity, but we truly appreciate the support of all that came & those who traveled to attend. Our prayers and deepest condolences go out to the individuals and families involved.”

The fliers also advertised precautions taken “due to the rise in senseless violence,” including screening guests through metal detectors and said promoters would “not responsible for accidents or theft.”

The incident in Texas came hours before the country witnessed a separate mass shooting in Sacramento, California, early Sunday, which prompted a response from the White House and President Biden calling on Congress to act on gun control, including passing his budget proposal to “give cities more of the funding they need to fund the police and fund the crime prevention and intervention.”

Six people were fatally shot and another dozen were injured when multiple shooters opened fire in downtown Sacramento as people flooded out of bars and restaurants around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Sunday’s concert incident was the second mass shooting seen in Dallas in recent weeks. WFAA reported that 10 people were wounded on March 19 when a shooting broke out at a spring break party at the venue The Space and one of the victims, an 18-year-old man, later died of his injuries. No suspects have been identified in that shooting, according to the outlet.
