‘Coming 2 America’ to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in March 2021

Eddie Murphy‘s upcoming movie “Coming 2 America” finally has a premiere plan.

The sequel to the beloved 1988 comedy will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on March 5, 2021, Amazon Studios announced on Friday.

The film, which reunites Murphy and Arsenio Hall, was originally a Paramount Pictures theatrical release. The studio sold the film to the streamer last month but had yet to finalize a date.

“’Coming to America’ was a cultural phenomenon that is one of the most loved and celebrated comedies of all time,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, in a statement.

EDDIE MURPHY CONFIRMS ‘COMING TO AMERICA’ SEQUEL: REPORT

“We know audiences around the world will fall in love with this hilarious, joyful movie that will surely become a timeless favorite,” she added.

The premise of the film, according to the press release, follows former Prince Akeem Joffer (Eddie Murphy), who is set to become King of Zamunda. However, during this time, he discovers he has a son, Lavelle (Jermaine Fowler), whom he never knew about in America. Honoring his royal father’s (James Earl Jones) dying wish to groom this son as the crown prince, Akeem and Semmi (Arsenio Hall) set off to America once again.

Amazon launches Counterfeit Crimes Unit to work with police in fight against fraudsters

Amazon is launching a new unit to crack down on counterfeit goods, the company announced Wednesday.

The Counterfeit Crimes Unit, which will be composed of former federal prosecutors, investigators and data analysts, will probe the platform and collect information from outside resources to locate “bad actors” who are trying to profit from knock-off items, the company said.

“Every counterfeiter is on notice that they will be held accountable to the maximum extent possible under the law, regardless of where they attempt to sell their counterfeits or where they’re located,” Dharmesh Mehta, vice president of Amazon Customer Trust and Partner Support, said in a statement.

In 2019, the retail giant invested more than $500 million and had more than 8,000 employees fighting fraud and abuse, including counterfeit. Amazon, which has been battling scam products and counterfeits for many years, said its efforts have blocked “over 2.5 million suspected bad actor accounts” before they could even put a product up for sale on the platform.

ACLU FILES COMPLAINT OVER FACIAL RECOGNITION ARREST

“We are working hard to disrupt and dismantle these criminal networks, and we applaud the law enforcement authorities who are already part of this fight. We urge governments to give these authorities the investigative tools, funding and resources they need to bring criminal counterfeiters to justice because criminal enforcement — through prosecution and other disruption measures such as freezing assets — is one of the most effective ways to stop them,” Mehta said.

The new unit will allow the company, led by CEO Jeff Bezos, to “more effectively pursue civil litigation against suspected criminals, work with brands in joint or independent investigations and aid law enforcement officials worldwide in criminal actions against counterfeiters,” it said.

Amazon extends frontline worker bonus pay, but will end it in June

Amazon plans to extend hazard pay for warehouse workers through the end of May, but it will return to normal pay rates in June, the company confirmed on Thursday.

The retail giant founded and led by CEO Jeff Bezos has been facing increasing pressure from lawmakers, state attorneys general and its own employees over how it has treated essential workers during the  coronavirus pandemic.

“We’ve extended the increased hourly pay through May 30. We are also extending double overtime pay in the U.S. and Canada. These extensions increase our total investment in pay during COVID-19 to nearly $800 million for our hourly employees and partners,” Timothy Carter, an Amazon spokesperson, told Fox News.

“In addition, we are providing flexibility with leave of absence options, including expanding the policy to cover COVID-19 circumstances, such as high-risk individuals or school closures. We continue to see heavy demand during this difficult time and the team is doing incredible work for our customers and the community,” Carter explained.

LOUD TALKING CAN LEAVE CORONAVIRUS IN AIR FOR UP TO 14 MINUTES, STUDY SAYS

A source familiar with Amazon’s response to COVID-19 confirmed a range of steps the company has taken to safeguard its employees, spending an addition $800 million on tens of millions of masks, hand sanitizers, gloves and disinfecting wipes, as well as thousands of thermometers, extra handwashing stations and more janitorial staffers.

Last week, Bezos announced that Amazon would spend at least $4 billion of its expected second-quarter profit “on COVID-related expenses getting products to customers and keeping employees safe,” including investments in personal protective equipment, enhanced cleaning, more effective social distancing practices and higher wages.

Amazon’s decision to end the pay increase at the end of May did not sit well with at least one lawmaker.

A worker at the Amazon fulfillment center that CEO Jeff Bezos recently visited has allegedly tested positive for coronavirus, Fox News has confirmed.

A source familiar with the matter noted the employee was last at the Dallas-area fulfillment, known as FTW6, on April 6. Since then, the building has been “deep cleaned multiple times,” the source told Fox News, adding the company is supporting the individual, who is recovering.

Bloomberg News initially reported the positive infection.

JEFF BEZOS MAKES VISIT TO AMAZON, WHOLE FOODS STORES AS SCRUTINY OVER WORKERS’ SAFETY INTENSIFIES

Bezos made the visit to an Amazon fulfillment center and a Whole Foods supermarket earlier this week to thank the company’s employees for their hard work on the front lines as the globe deals with the coronavirus pandemic.

In a video, which was posted to social media, Bezos can be seen wearing a protective mask, along with a white shirt and jeans. However, the 56-year-old tech titan does not appear to be abiding by social distancing rules put in place by U.S. federal and health officials.

“We’re all incredibly proud of the thousands of our colleagues working on the front lines to get critical goods to people everywhere during this crisis,” Amazon wrote in a tweet accompanying the video.

Seattle-based Amazon has recently come under scrutiny for alleged lax working conditions at its various warehouses and fulfillment centers around the country.

In March, a group of four U.S. senators, including Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. and Cory Booker, D-N.J., wrote a letter to Bezos expressing their concern about the health and safety of Amazon warehouse workers.

Former Amazon employee Christian Smalls demanded that the Bezos-led company close its Staten Island fulfillment center for a deep cleaning after a worker tested positive for COVID-19 in mid-March. Smalls was later fired, with Amazon telling Fox News it terminated him because he violated several terms of his employment.

After the news of Smalls’ termination, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio ordered an investigation into the incident. New York Attorney General Letitia James also issued a statement, saying “it is disgraceful” Smalls was terminated after he “bravely stood up to protect himself and his colleagues.”

The Washington Post, which is also owned by Bezos, reported that Amazon workers at 10 warehouses around the country have tested positive for COVID-19.

Bezos himself has said that he is “wholly focused” on coronavirus, according to a publicly -available letter, in which he thanked his employees for their efforts.

In March, Bezos announced that Amazon was working with the World Health Organization in a number of capacities as the world attempts to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.

As of Friday morning, more than 1.61 million coronavirus cases have been diagnosed worldwide, more than 466,000 of which are in the U.S., the most impacted country on the planet.
