Yogi Berra’s granddaughter previews doc showcasing baseball icon’s legacy, historic career

For Yogi Berra fans, his legacy ‘ain’t over’

Yogi Berra’s granddaughter Lindsay Berra speaks to Neil Cavuto about ‘It Ain’t Over,’ a new documentary that looks at the baseball legend’s life and influence, on ‘Your World.’

A baseball documentary about New York Yankees legend Yogi Berra is shining new light on the life and career of one of the most distinguished athletes in American history.

“It Ain’t Over” features Yogi Berra’s granddaughter, Lindsay Berra, who reflects on growing up with her grandfather and how she views him stacked up against other all-time baseball greats.

“You have to get Vin Scully, Bobby Brown, Joe Garagiola, Hector Lopez, Bobby Richardson,” Lindsay Berra told Neil Cavuto on Thursday’s “Your World.”

Lindsay Berra was involved in the production of the film from a logistics perspective since the beginning.

“I wanted as many people who had either played with or seen grandpa play.”

The Hall of Fame Yankees catcher and 18-time All-Star played 19 seasons in Major League Baseball, won three MVP awards and led the Yankees to 10 World Series championships.

Before Yogi Berra’s baseball career began with the New York Yankees, the St. Louis native received a Purple Heart for serving in the Navy during the invasion of Normandy in World War II.

“I think that my grandfather just was kind of profoundly grateful for coming home from World War II when so many other men did not, and having the opportunity to live the rest of his life and play a kid’s game, do something that he loved for a living,” Lindsay Berra said.

She said the concept of creating a documentary celebrating her grandfather derived from producer Peter Sobiloff, who was inspired after watching the 2018 Mr. Rogers documentary.

“[Sobiloff] approached my dad and my uncles and said, ‘How come there’s no Mr. Rogers documentary about your father?’ And they said, ‘Well, no one’s ever made one.’ And he said, ‘Well, can I?’ And he had produced another film, a feature film, actually, with our director, Sean Mullin, so he introduced Sean to my dad and uncles, and they really liked Sean,” she continued. “And then I met Sean after that and got involved really with the project just by starting to pepper him with emails.”

Lindsay Berra said she thinks her grandfather was “a little overlooked” after an “eye-opening experience” she had during the 2015 MLB All-Star Game.

“For him to be left off that list of the greatest living players — and, you know, my dad is constantly bugged by the fact that my grandpa’s left off the Yankees Mount Rushmore.”

Yogi Berra’s memorable quotes — better known as “Yogi-isms” — coined phrases such as, “It ain’t over ’til it’s over,” and, “When you get to a fork in the road, take it.”

Lindsay Berra confirmed that “they were all his” and admitted she repeats them often in her everyday life.

“They’re very representative of the very simple, direct, black-and-white way in which my grandfather viewed the world,” she said. “He was very able to just kind of cut through the crap and call a spade a spade and see things for what they are.”

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY, APRIL 8, 1974, HANK AARON BREAKS BABE RUTH’S HOME RUN RECORD

“We all get so bogged down in the minutia of things, and he just didn’t do that. And they kind of fell out of his mouth and I consider them all pearls of wisdom,” she said. “They may be funny on the surface, but if you’re only seeing the funny, you’re not giving yourself the chance to really appreciate them and see through to the very profound nature of all of these sayings.”

Charlotte Democrat switched parties after being called ‘ammosexual,’ critiqued for invoking Jesus Christ

A North Carolina state lawmaker sounded off Wednesday after switching affiliation from Democratic to Republican following what she said were unending personal attacks from her own political wing, some of which were focused on her car’s American flag decal and her respect for the Second Amendment.

In doing so, State Rep. Tricia Cotham, R-Mecklenburg, incidentally awarded Republicans in the lower chamber a veto-proof supermajority against North Carolina Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper – whom they clashed with during his coronavirus lockdown orders, and beyond.

Cotham told “Your World” she entered politics to be a public servant and “stateswoman; do greater good for all of the great state of North Carolina,” – having served previously for a decade and returned to office after time outside politics.

However, upon her entrance to the caucus, Cotham felt her party had undergone a sudden negative lurch:

“I noticed some pretty big changes in the Democratic Party right when I got here, and it was very disturbing,” she said, adding she prominently features the Stars & Stripes on her personal vehicle and speaks openly about her faith.

“I’ve used Jesus several times when I’ve led our chamber in House prayer – I was told you can never trust a Dem who wears camo and just this week [was] called an ammosexual.”

She called those attacks antithetical to what the U.S. stands for, and cited her past work – formerly across the aisle – with Republicans during her tenure.

Her affiliation change led Democrats to call for her resignation, she said, as House Minority Leader Robert Reives II, D-Pittsboro, said Cotham said she campaigned to pursue a Democratic agenda in a blue district.

Cotham claimed to Fox News that “thousands of dollars in false ads” have since gone after her family, which she said affects her two children and her role as a single mother.

“I think this will start a trend throughout our country because people have had enough,” Cotham said.

“You know, it takes a lot to this. I’m a doer. I’m a risk-taker. I do what I think is right, even if I am the only one doing it. That is who I am and what I believe,” she said, adding she is open to dialogue with other affiliated Democratic lawmakers who may want to consider leaving the leftist party.

North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Michael Whatley said Cotham’s announcement shows the Democratic Party is “too radical” for the Tarheel State, adding in a statement that “The values of the Republican Party align with voters, and the people of Mecklenburg County should be proud to have her representation in Raleigh.”

Panetta on Biden’s remarks: ‘Up to the Russians who their leader will be’

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Former CIA director and defense secretary Leon Panetta joined “Your World” on Monday to discuss President Biden’s comments about whether Russian autocratic leader Vladimir Putin should remain in power.

Panetta told host Neil Cavuto that it should be up to the Russian people who their leader should be.

LEON PANETTA, FORMER CIA DIRECTOR: I think the bottom line is that the Russians will determine who their leader is going to be, and it’s up to the Russians. I think the Russians are going to face a very difficult position because I think Putin is, without question, seriously weakened as a result of this terrible strategic decision that he made to invade Ukraine. It was a mistake. And I think ultimately he’s going to pay the price for that.

The Russians and the Russian people will ultimately make that decision, right? I think that considering that Putin is virtually a dictator in Russia and that the Russians have kind of tolerated his leadership for a long time, it’s going to take a real effort within Russia to be able to ultimately see if he’s going to be replaced.

I don’t think it’s if it’s a fait accompli that somehow Putin is automatically going to get kicked out of office by the Russian people.

It was the case when we were going after bin Laden that, you know, even though we would be successful, they would always try to get somebody to replace him. I understand that. But the fact is, if you can get rid of one bad leader, I think the chances are pretty good that the next leader, you might very well have a better relationship with in terms of trying to work out the issues that we have with Russia.

Look, we’re living in the 21st century. This is a global world. I hope that ultimately in a global world, we can find a way to have a relationship with Russia that involves peace and prosperity.

Ukrainian parliament member ‘sure that Putin will lose’ war: ‘I’m ready to fight’

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Ukrainian parliament member Alexey Goncharenko said he is “sure” that Russian President Vladimir Putin “will lose” his fight for Ukraine Thursday on “Your World.” Holding a rifle, Goncharenko said he was “ready to fight” for his native Ukraine.

ALEXEY GONCHARENKO: I was born [in Ukraine] and I’m ready to fight for it. And I’m sure that Putin will lose. I don’t know how much time [it will] take, but he will lose. But definitely, we need the support of the West because we are not fighting just for ourselves – we are fighting for the whole world, and for the whole civilized world. And I think that it’s very important for [the] free world to show its strength. Not to show like after … Afghanistan, the weakness of [the] free world, but the strength of [the] free world. And if Putin and other dictators will see that the free world is weak, then Ukraine will be just the beginning. Then there will be … many more crises in Europe and in Asia and in Taiwan and wherever you can call. So I think that’s a crucial moment for the free world in general – to support Ukraine, to support Ukraine to keep our existence.

…

Just don’t believe Putin. Today, he … asked not to be part of NATO. But when he started [the] war against Ukraine in 2014, we were not [a] member of NATO and … we didn’t have aspirations to NATO from a majority of people. So he started the war from [a] neutral country, absolutely neutral. So that’s Putin who made us … wanting to go to NATO. So that’s not about NATO, it’s about that Putin wants to rebuild [the] Soviet empire, the empire of evil, like President Reagan told. And he wants Ukraine, he wants Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Baltic countries. He wants Poland. He wants the wall in Berlin, I [assure] you. So the question is, where will he be stopped? That’s the question and not … where he will stop voluntarily. He will never stop voluntarily.

Charles Payne denounces President Biden’s social justice economic plan

CHARLES PAYNE: “I think some people are blown away [by the price tag]. Maybe a few experts are waiting for it. That $6 trillion is sticker shock. Considering that amount is the most we’ve ever spent. That’s the year-over-year increase ever.

…

You know, I think the point has been made that we’ve spent this kind of money in the past or we’ve had emergency spending like this in the past — but it was emergency. It was short-term: Whether it was World War II, or whether it was right after the great recession or to sort of help with the COVID shutdowns.

…

This is something different. It comes with a lot of deficits. It comes with more taxes. Comes with things that even the Biden administration, Neil, admits that we’ll have really mediocre GDP growth under this plan.

…

It’s not an economic plan. It’s a social justice plan. It’s extraordinarily dangerous. It takes us off the rails of what made us amazing to begin with.

…

We wake up and look and say wow, we’re the greatest country in the world. But it took something to get us here and I don’t think we want to deviate far from that formula.

Sen. Rob Portman: Republican divide is ‘not a policy debate,’ but ‘a personality issue’

Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, joined “Your World” Wednesday to discuss the state of the Republican Party after former President Donald Trump fired off a cease-and-desist letter to the Republican National Committee to quit using his name on behalf of candidates that he said are “RINOS.”

PORTMAN: People will use his name in their solicitations and I’m sure many will. He is very popular among the Republican base … As a party, we have to get back to the policy, the issues where the American people generally agree with us. This is where the Republicans did well in 2020, except at the top.

NEIL CAVUTO: But you’re not on the same page, right? These battles between you and the former president keep happening. And given the enmity between Trump and [the] Senate [Republican] leader, you have to wonder whether Mitch McConnell is in a separate universe and Trump’s backers are in a separate universe from him. I’m wondering, where is this going? Are you worried about it?

PORTMAN: With all due respect, I disagree with you that it’s about policy. Mitch McConnell and President [Trump] differed very little on policy. It’s not a policy debate. This is a personality issue.

CAVUTO: Do you think it’s hurting your party?

PORTMAN: It has the potential to hurt the party. It’s already making it more divided. But let’s get back to the policies. That’s where we agree, that’s where the American people want us to focus. Our job as a party is to help organize the democracy around certain ideas. You have organizers on the left and the right of our democracy. We’re the ones that should be saying the deficit does matter. Tax reform is important to drive jobs and tax cuts hurt jobs. We’re the ones that say energy independence is a good thing, not a bad thing.

Sen. Portman wants to hold off on new coronavirus aid bill until we ‘see how this one works’

Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, joined “Your World” Tuesday to discuss the prospect of another multi-trillion-dollar coronavirus aid bill, which has been floated by members of both parties as well as President Trump.

“Let’s see how this one works. $2.3 trillion is a lot of money,” Portman told host Neil Cavuto of the aid package enacted last week, noting that more funding had been appropriated through that bill than in an entire typical congressional year.

Portman added that he expects there to be holes in the measure that need to be filled with earmarks, such as more funding for rural hospitals.

“In Ohio, we are hurting right now,” he told host Neil Cavuto. “I don’t know if there will be enough in here to cover the deep concerns that we have particularly with our rural hospitals. The revenues are down and expenses are up.”

Portman reminded Cavuto that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who is among those calling for more aid bills, tried to jam unrelated expenditures into an urgent piece of legislation — but again added that more may need to be done to fight the virus’ effects on the country.

“[Pelosi’s demands were] in part a wish list, and in part things that related to stimulus that you would want to do once the health crisis behind us,” he said.

According to Portman, more measures to stimulate the economy should be looked at once the viral contagion begins abating, but the medical community currently needs Congress’ attention the most.

“People aren’t able to make things,” he said. “Consumers are not going to go to restaurants. They’re not going to go to retail establishments. We aren’t going to go back to work and school until the crisis is abated,” he said.

“That is when you work to these stimulative initiatives like the tax cuts that we did a few years ago, which were very helpful.”

Gabbard blasts ‘senseless partisan bickering’ amid coronavirus threat, says ‘we’ve got to stand together’

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii told Fox News Wednesday that politicians must get beyond petty arguing and focus on real preventative solutions to fight the potential outbreak of coronavirus in the United States.

Gabbard ripped her fellow Democratic presidential candidates who took part in Tuesday’s debate in Charleston, S.C., saying that the contenders spent their time piling on each other rather than discussing “serious challenges” like the virus.

“Voters probably walked away not getting much value and feeling frustrated given the serious challenges that we’re facing right now with things like the coronavirus — something that is threatening the safety, health and well-being and lives of the American people and something that requires all of us as Americans coming together, standing together and standing together just as we would in wartime,” she said.

CORONAVIRUS CONCERNS ON LONG ISLAND, NY SEE 83 BEING MONITORED

As of Wednesday, there are 14 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the United States, according to the CDC. Another 45 people who have been repatriated to the U.S. from Wuhan, China and the Diamond Princess cruise ship also have the virus but are counted separately from U.S. cases. Earlier Wednesday, health officials on Long Island said 83 people in Nassau County were being monitored for the virus, but added that there were no confirmed cases of the illness in the area

Gabbard admonished President Trump and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., for arguing over funding and playing politics with the threat.

“Now is the time where Democrats and Republicans … we’ve got to stand together as Americans and put the health and well being of the American people first,” she said. “We cannot afford to be penny-wise and pound-foolish — we’ve got to come together and say what actions are necessary immediately to prevent what some people are saying is inevitable.”

“I think it’s wrong for some people to say well, it’s inevitable and this is going to come here and it’s going to take the lives of millions of Americans,” Gabbard added. “I don’t accept that.”

She criticized the preparation, or lack thereof, for a contagion, saying that in her home state, doctors cannot get the proper supplies in case patients needed to be treated for coronavirus.

“In Hawaii, they’re not able to get their hands-on testing kits. We have a shortage of masks that are not available, even to healthcare professionals that have folks come into their hospitals or ERs. We’re behind the curve. We cannot afford for this senseless partisan bickering and putting partisan politics literally ahead of the lives of the American people,” she said. “This requires leadership, it requires us standing together as Americans where when we do this, we know we can accomplish anything and it requires working with other countries.”

Hawaii has no confirmed cases of coronavirus. However, Honolulu FOX affiliate KHON reports that there are 61 people spread among the archipelago who are “self-monitoring.” Most of those are on Oahu, while other self-monitoring cases have been counted on Maui, Kauai and the Big Island.

Mollie Hemingway: ‘I think people will be livid’ if DOJ IG report recommends limited consequences

Federalist senior editor and Fox News contributor Mollie Hemingway said Tuesday that President Trump‘s base will be incensed if Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report on alleged FBI surveillance of the 2016 Trump campaign reveals wrongdoing but recommends limited consequences.

Hemingway told “Your World” that while inspectors general do not have the same wide scope as a typical federal prosecutor, Horowitz’s past investigations have revealed misconduct but not necessarily recommended harsh punishment.

“If it follows how his other reports have gone, it will probably include a lot of really damaging information about what the FBI and other parts of the Department of Justice were doing, but it probably won’t come down very hard on the people who were doing it,” she said.

FLASHBACK: SEVEN HIGHLIGHTS FROM BOMBSHELL IG REPORT ON DOJ, FBI CLINTON EMAIL PROBE

Horowitz, she said, only has the power to interview current DOJ employees and officials, and cannot expand his probe to former employees or related associates.

“If the IG comes out and says, yeah, [widespread surveillance] happened, but no big deal, I think people will be livid because they have been waiting for some kind of accountability,” Hemingway said, adding the Justice Department has “wide latitude” under the law when it comes to what actions they can take in their work.

“This inspector general has said some pretty harsh things about the behavior of FBI agents,” she added.

Horowitz previously reported on FBI actions regarding the Clinton email probe and condemned the now-infamous texts between FBI official Peter Strzok and his mistress Lisa Page.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

While Horowitz noted in his 2018 report that there is no available evidence that political considerations directly impacted investigative decisions in the Clinton probe and that Strzok was not the “sole” decision-maker on any key investigative actions, he concluded the officials’ behavior was still highly inappropriate.

“We recognize that these text and instant messages cast a cloud over the FBI’s handling of the Midyear [Clinton email] investigation and the investigation’s credibility,” Horowitz’s report said.

On “Your World,” Hemingway told host Neil Cavuto that Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham’s ongoing and more expansive probe into the origins of the Russia probe should be more “interesting.”

“[Durham] can look into more than just FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) abuse,” she said.
