“He’s just a TV icon,” MacLean said.

Another fan perusing Trebek’s belongings, like theater room chairs for $750 each, told the outlet it’s more about Trebek than money.

Mayim Bialik discusses Mike Richards’ ‘Jeopardy!’ departure, hosting Season 38: ‘I am part of this family’

Mayim Bialik spoke out about the improbable road she took to hosting “Jeopardy!” in the wake of Mike Richards’ controversial departure from the show.

Last week, Sony Pictures Television confirmed to Fox News that Bialik will host the remainder of Season 38 alongside “Jeopardy!” legend Ken Jennings. The duo will hold down the fort while the minds behind the scenes look for a permanent replacement for Alex Trebek after Richards left the show following a slew of inappropriate comments he made in the past that resurfaced.

Bialik reflected on her “Jeopardy!” journey so far in a post written for Newsweek in which she discussed how she came to be one of the original guest hosts after Trebek died in November of 2020. She also touched upon the Richards controversy, noting that she does not have much to say on the matter as she didn’t think it would impact her position at the show as much as it has.

When Richards was first announced as the new permanent replacement for Trebek, it was revealed that Bialik would take on hosting special event episodes such as the show’s “National College Championship.”

KEN JENNINGS SAYS HOSTING ‘JEOPARDY!’ IS ‘NERVE-RACKING,’ WISHES ALEX TREBEK WERE STILL HERE

“I didn’t immediately know who the other host was going to be, and after Mike Richards was announced as permanent host, a couple more weeks passed and then everything changed and Mike stepped down,” she wrote. “I think everyone who works with me will say that, as a person who has been acting since I was a kid, I go where I’m pointed and I do the job I’m told to do. I do what’s in front of me. I don’t really follow the news aspect of my industry too much.”

The star noted that she remained in contact with Richards after comments he made on a podcast he used to host came to light and prompted allegations that he made derogatory comments about women, people with mental disabilities, and the poor. However, Bialik says that she stayed away from getting into the weeds about all that and instead focused on supporting the show and its fans.

“That’s how I approached what was going on. Of course I was in touch with Mike as he was my boss at that time, and I don’t wish ill on him, or anyone. But the complexity of these situations is not something that can be summed up easily,” the former “Big Bang Theory” star explained. “My first response, when all of this went down, was to say to the Jeopardy! team: ‘How can I help?’ Because I am part of this family.”

In addition to noting how much fun she’s having filming Season 38 episodes and joking that she would give up her first child to get the permanent hosting job, Bialik took a moment to pay tribute to Trebek and the massive legacy and shoes he left behind that everyone, including her, are struggling to fill.

“It probably sounds crazy, but you definitely feel Alex’s presence on that stage. As someone who didn’t necessarily grow up with the constant presence of Alex in my living room, I feel him everywhere on that stage and I get to work with people who for decades worked so closely with him and whom he called friends. That’s what feels really special,” she concluded. “There will never be another Alex, on camera or off. It’s important not to try and be him, because you can’t, but as I learn more about him, I see how much he made his life an act of devotion to humanity. That’s the legacy that I hold so dear as I go to work each day.”

Ryan Reynolds reveals details about his final phone call with Alex Trebek

Ryan Reynolds is detailing his last conversation with Alex Trebek.

The 44-year-old actor opened up to E! News about his relationship with the late “Jeopardy!” host while discussing Trebek’s cameo in the upcoming film “Free Guy.”

“Even right up before shortly before he passed away, I talked to him on the phone about a charity initiative he was trying to launch,” Reynolds told the outlet. “This guy was really made of good stuff right until the end. Having him in the movie is certainly bittersweet, that’s for sure.”

The “Deadpool” actor has previously spoken about his close relationship with the game show host. Trebek passed away in November after battling pancreatic cancer.

Johnny Gilbert, the voice of ‘Jeopardy!’, discusses long tenure on game show at age 92

Johnny Gilbert, the voice of “Jeopardy!‘, is opening up about his long tenure on the game show at the age of 92.

Gilbert, who decided to stick with “Jeopardy!” after Alex Trebek’s death, faced the wrenching question once again as production for next season neared.

This time it would mean adjusting to the quiz show’s yet-to-be-named host, as opposed to the succession of celebrities who have been filling in since Trebek succumbed to pancreatic cancer last November.

“It’s not easy for me because I worked with Alex for 37 years, and I never thought of anybody replacing him,” he said. “Nobody can do it like he did it, you know.”

No one does it like Gilbert either, who at age 92 has decided he’s not ready to call it quits on the show business career he began pursuing as a teenager.

Last year, when he was reluctant to continue after losing his admired and longtime colleague, others with the show urged Gilbert to consider his role as a comforting touchstone for viewers who also were in mourning for Trebek.

“If you just listen to the way Johnny articulates each name, each word, he has a voice and even more importantly, delivery, unlike anyone else,” said Mike Richards, the show’s executive producer. Without Trebek, “the fact we can still rely on Johnny is obviously very important to us as well.”

“This is ‘Jeopardy!’” is Gilbert’s richly booming introduction that opens each episode and belies his years. In turn, he’s acknowledged with thanks from the host and, occasionally, has been shown at an otherwise off-camera stage perch.

During the pandemic, he’s been taping his contributions remotely from the Los Angeles-area home he shares with his wife, Sheree Gilbert. They’ve been together for several more years than his “Jeopardy!” stint, the sort of marital and career longevity that’s rare in Hollywood.

‘JEOPARDY!’ GUEST HOST MAYIM BIALIK CALLS GIG AN ‘IMMENSE HONOR,’ RECALLS MEETING ALEX TREBEK

Born near Roanoke, Virginia, and raised in the coastal city of Newport News, Gilbert had something different in mind when he first dreamed of being an entertainer — singing — and his parents supported their only child’s aspirations.

“I started taking voice lessons when I was still in high school, got a job with a little band and traveled around in that area for a while,” he said. “That was the beginning of it all.”

A winding path followed, one with bumps and byways that included military service, but Gilbert wasn’t to be deterred. His advantages, besides an impressive vocal range: determination and a willingness to adapt to the work at hand.

He was 18 when a newspaper want-ad for a band singer sent him to Jacksonville, Florida. Turned out the act had already hit the road but instead of backtracking home, he searched out a local talent manager.

A club on the outskirts of town was looking for an emcee, the manager told Gilbert, who had to admit he was unfamiliar with the term. Master of ceremonies, explained the manager, who was undaunted when Gilbert said he had no experience.

“He taught me how to introduce people on the stage and take them off the stage,” he recalled. He got the job and the opportunity to sing with the club band, a gig that lasted for about six weeks and set the pattern for his fledgling career.

It was America in the 1950s, dotted with nightclubs and supper clubs, and Gilbert made the most of the opportunities. He started in the South and worked “my way all across the country,” he said.

The draft interrupted his career but not his stage work: Gilbert’s talent was noticed and he was assigned to a U.S. Army special services entertainment unit in Germany.

He was back on the nightclub circuit post-service when an agent suggested to a delighted Gilbert that he give television a try. He started in New York with game shows including “Music Bingo,” then moved to LA to host “Beat the Odds” and back again to New York as work dictated.

Among his many other TV credits are “The Joker’s Wild,” Dinah Shore’s talk show “Dinah!” and “The $25,000 Pyramid.” Then the syndicated version of former network series “Jeopardy!” beckoned in 1984, with both co-creator Merv Griffin and Trebek in his corner, Gilbert said.

“So 37 years ago, Merv hired me to be the announcer on a show called ‘Jeopardy!’ for 13 weeks,” he said.

Gilbert expressed reservations about whether the Sony Pictures Television series would bring him back when taping resumes in late July or early August for season 38. He’s served as warm-up host for the studio audience as well as the show’s announcer.

“I’m not as young as I used to be,” Gilbert said. But there is a tradition of longevity in the field, including the late Don Pardo of “Saturday Night Live.” He was the show’s voice for 38 seasons until his 2014 retirement at age 96.

“Jeopardy!” producer Richards, who’d stepped in as the show’s first fill-in host, quickly brushed aside the notion that Gilbert’s tenure was in anyone’s hands but his own.

“Johnny will be the announcer of ‘Jeopardy!’ as long as he would like to be the announcer of ‘Jeopardy!’” Richards said. “I have told him that, and it’s just how he is, humble. He’s never taken the job for granted.”

Alex Trebek’s wife, Jean, discusses his charitable work and desire to be ‘part of the solution’

Alex Trebek’s widow opened up about the late “Jeopardy!” host’s philanthropic efforts and the impact that had on him toward the end of his life.

Alex died in November of 2020 at age 80 after a very lengthy and public battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Not only was he the beloved host of the long-running game show, but Alex and Jean are responsible for some impressive charitable work as well.

Jean opened up about her late husband for the first time in an interview with “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie as part of the NBC special “Inspiring America: The 2021 Inspiration List” on Saturday. In addition to discussing how the family is coping with the loss of Alex months later, she honored him by discussing his charitable work.

Throughout their more than 30-year marriage the duo gave back every chance they got. Most recently, they donated $500,000 to help fund the Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission, which endeavors to help the growing homeless population in Los Angeles.

“Today” notes that Alex and Jean were involved in many charities such as offering scholarships at Fordham University in New York City, supporting the United Service Organizations, donating to public park space in Hollywood Hills and funding global projects through World Vision.

While charity was obviously important to them, Jean revealed that they also tried to make empathy for the less fortunate a part of their children’s lives  too. She described a particularly formative trip the family took to Zambia to see a community center and school they helped fund.

She recalled her late husband’s stunned and empathetic reaction to a desperate woman who attempted to give him her baby to take care of.

Alex’s propensity to help people even bled into his cancer diagnosis. He made the decision to be very public and open with his fans about his battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, which many have said helped them with their own cancer struggles.

“I think that is one of Alex’s gifts was that he could be very resolute and know that the truth will not hurt you, and he wanted to empower people to move through whatever challenge they had in life with a sense of inner strength, inner dignity and love,” Jean concluded.

‘Jeopardy!’ host Alex Trebek says wife Jean ‘kept me alive’ during cancer battle

Alex Trebek is thankful everyday for having his wife Jean by his side.

The longtime “Jeopardy!” host opened up about his marriage in a new memoir titled “The Answer Is… Reflections On My Life,” which is out now. In the book, the 80-year-old described how the 56-year-old has been his rock during his stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

“She’s kept me alive,” the host told People magazine on Wednesday. “If it weren’t for Jean, I’d had put myself out of this a long time ago.”

Trebek first met Jean through a mutual friend in 1988 when he was 47 years old. At the time, Trebek had been hosting “Jeopardy!” for just four years. According to the outlet, he was newly single after his divorce from his first wife, businesswoman Elaine Callei. As for Jean, who was 23 at the time, she was doing part-time bookkeeping for one of Trebek’s friends.

“With Jean, it just happened,” Trebek wrote in his book, as reported by People. “Sometimes you look at something, you look at someone, and you know. I mean, you’ve heard stories of people who meet and decide within half an hour; I knew this was going to be the person I’d end up with.

“With Jeanie, that’s how it was,” he continued. “I wasn’t looking for love. But I recognized at a gut level that here was someone who was going to complete me as a human being.”

Back in 1990, Trebek admitted that their 24-year age gap initially concerned him.

“At first it worried me,” he said. “But then I thought, ‘To hell with it. We’ll make it work.’”

In his book, Trebek recalled meeting Jean’s father for the first time, a man who was only two years older than he was.

“He was running a private investigation firm in New York, and he had arranged for a boat to host some family and friends for an engagement party,” he wrote. “When Jeanie introduced me to him, he took one look at me and said, ‘I guess I won’t be calling you ‘son.’”

ALEX TREBEK REVEALS PLANS TO STOP CANCER TREATMENT IF LATEST ROUND FAILS

Trebek and Jean married in 1990.

“When the minister said, ‘Do you, Alex, take Jean to be your wife?’” he wrote. “I said, ‘The answer is… Yes.’ Leave it to me, always trying to go for a laugh. And I got one. Everybody cracked up.”

Three weeks after tying the knot, the couple learned Jean was pregnant with their son Matthew, now 29. Trebek and Jean later welcomed a daughter named Emily, now 26, in 1993.

Today, Matthew owns a restaurant in New York while Emily works in real estate.

Trebek received his cancer diagnosis in March 2019. Despite the devastating news, the couple’s love for each other has endured. The outlet noted they just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary.

‘Jeopardy!’ host Alex Trebek recites Lizzo’s ‘Truth Hurts’ during game, delighting at-home viewers

“Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek gave fans a thrill during a recent episode when he recited the lyrics to Lizzo’s smash hit song “Truth Hurts” as part of a clue during the game.

The acclaimed game show host was forced to read part of the song as a prompt to get one of the contestants to venture the answer “who is Lizzo?” during regular play. Being a consummate professional, Trebek read the lyrics in their entirety, even the parts that aren’t necessarily words, before poking fun at himself.

“Her: New man on the Minnesota Vikings, truth hurts, needed something more exciting, bom bom bi dom bi dum bum bay,” Trebek read as a $1,000 clue, much to the delight of viewers.

“Yup — and I did it exactly like she does, didn’t I?” he quipped sarcastically.

Although Trebek seemed less-than-pleased with his rapping skills, people on social media were instantly delighted by the charming on-air moment.

“If anybody needs some positivity, here’s Alex Trebek reciting @lizzo lyrics on #jeopardy,” one user wrote.

“.@lizzo is SHAKING 😂 thanks for this #Jeopardy laugh, Alex,” another user wrote.

“Watching Alex Trebek imitate @lizzo on @Jeopardy tonight may be the best thing you will see all day 😂,” a third person said.

“I hope @lizzo watches #Jeopardy,” someone else added.

Last week, Jeopardy revealed that it had halted production amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. However, it noted that it pre-taped many shows and continues to run new ones that were filmed before people started practicing social distancing.

“A friendly reminder that the current episodes were taped months in advance, so any interactions between the contestants, Alex, or the studio audience were considered safe at that time. Alex Trebek messes up two ‘Jeopardy!’ contestants’ names, calls one ‘Jessica Rabbit’

Alex Trebek proved he’s willing to laugh at himself after he mispronounced two contestants’ names during a recent broadcast of “Jeopardy!”

The longtime host prides himself on getting everything right when it comes to interacting with contestants and reading the prompts. However, on Thursday night’s episode of the trivia competition show, he got off to a rough start with the pronunciation of contestant Dewi Harjanto’s first name.

According to Yahoo, Trebek spent the first round of the episode referring to the contestant as “Doo-Wee.” However, at the beginning of the Double Jeopardy! Round, Trebek realized his error.

“Dewi (Day-Wee), I’ve been mispronouncing your name, but I’m sure I’m not the first person who has done that over the years,” he said. “My apologies to you.”

The gaffe was lighthearted enough, but when the host made a similar mistake later in the show, it made it a lot funnier for both him and the home viewers.

After reigning champion Jessica Babbitt won her Final Jeopardy! Round, Trebek accidentally mixed up her name with a character from the classic film “Who Framed Roger Rabbit.”

‘JEOPARDY!’ TEEN WINNER HONORS ALEX TREBEK, DONATES $10G TO CANCER RESEARCH: ‘I WAS INSPIRED TO GIVE’

“Jessica Rabbit, you’re going to wrap up the week with us having earned $46,598,” said Trebek.

When Babbitt began laughing, an embarrassed Trebek charmingly corrected himself.

“And your last name is not ‘Rabbit,’ it’s ‘Babbitt.’ This is not my day for names,” he said.

It didn’t take long for a handful of people on social media to comment on the mistake.

“Alex calling her Jessica Rabbit. I mean we all thought it. I am so sorry, m’am. That life must’ve been obnoxious growing up with. #jeopardy,” one user wrote on Twitter.

“Did he just call the champ Jessica Rabbit? #Jeopardy,” someone else noted.

“Jessica Rabbit? I love Alex. #Jeopardy,” a third user wrote.

“Omg Alex called her Jessica Rabbit my life is complete #Jeopardy,” someone else wrote.

DR. OZ UPDATES ON CONDITION OF ALEX TREBEK AMID CANCER BATTLE: ‘HE’S AN INCREDIBLE FIGHTER’

“Trebek just called the Jeopardy winner Jessica Babbit ‘Jessica Rabbit,'” someone else chimed in.

“Alex Trebec calling the champion Jessica Rabbit on accident (her name is Jessica Babbitt) made my day so much better!” one excited user wrote.

“Did you watch Jeopardy this evening? Alex Trebeck congratulated tonight’s winner. Her name is Jessica Babbit, he called her Jessica Rabbit, she even has red hair. Lol!” wrote another person.

Trebek was in on his own joke, opting to sign off for the evening by pretending to mess up his own name.

“This is Alex ‘Rebek’ saying goodbye until tomorrow,” he joked.

The famed game show host, 79, recently gave fans an update on his ongoing battle with pancreatic cancer after one year.

“Hi, everyone. If you’ve got a minute I’d like to bring you up to date on my health situation. The one-year survival rate for stage 4 pancreatic cancer patients is 18 percent. I’m very happy to report I have just reached that marker,” Trebek, who is not in remission, told viewers while standing in his “Jeopardy” studio.

He previously admitted that his chemotherapy has caused sores in his mouth that affects his speech and may one day prevent him from hosting the show.

“I’m sure there are observant members of the television audience that notice also, but they’re forgiving,” Trebek said at the time. “But there will come a point when they (fans and producers) will no longer be able to say, ‘It’s OK.'”

However, Trebek has no plans to retire at this time.

Coronavirus concerns cause ‘Jeopardy!’ and ‘Wheel of Fortune’ to be filmed without live audiences: report

“Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!” have both put a pause on filming with live audiences due to the coronavirus, according to a new report.

Per TMZ, citing production sources, starting Tuesday both shows will be filmed sans live audiences.

In addition, another concern is that most of the audience members for both shows are elderly, who along with those with weakened immune systems, are considered to be most vulnerable to the virus, TMZ reported.

The third reported factor is that a handful of people who attend the tapings are from out of town and, as the virus grows globally, being smart about planning travel is crucial.

Coronavirus concerns have also caused musicians to cancel or postpone concerts — most of them outside of the United States — because of the spreading virus, including Madonna, Queen, Ciara, BTS, Khalid, Mariah Carey, Green Day and more.
