    White Sox accuse Yankees Josh Donaldson of making racist ‘Jackie’ remark; MLB investigating

    The Chicago White Sox on Saturday accused New York Yankees slugger Josh Donaldson of making a racist comment directed at Chicago shortstop Tim Anderson.

    After the Yankees’ 7-5 win in New York, Anderson, who is Black, said Donaldson referred to him as “Jackie” during the game, a reference to MLB legend Jackie Robinson. 

    “He just made a, you know, disrespectful comment,” Anderson told reporters. “Basically, it was trying to call me Jackie Robinson. Like, ‘What’s up, Jackie?’ I don’t play like that. I don’t really play at all. 

    “I wasn’t really going to bother nobody today, but he made the comment, and you know it was disrespectful, and I don’t think it was called for. Unnecessary.”

    White Sox manager Tony La Russa thought the comment by Donaldson was “racist.”

    “That’s as strong as it gets,” La Russa said.

    Robinson was a six-time all-star who broke the MLB color barrier in 1947. He played in six World Series, and the league retired his No. 42 for all teams. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.

    Donaldson, who is White, said he jokingly called Anderson “Jackie” in the past following a 2019 Sports Illustrated interview in which Anderson said he felt like “today’s Jackie Robinson.”

    “My meaning of that is not any term trying to be racist by any fact of the matter,” Donaldson said. “Obviously, he deemed it disrespectful … and look, if he did, I apologize. That’s not what I was trying to do by any manner and that’s what happened.”

    Anderson said Donaldson made a “Jackie” reference in an early inning before the pair started jawing in the third. Things appeared to escalate in the fifth when White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal confronted Donaldson as Donaldson approached the plate.

    “Believe me, you don’t want me to tell you guys what I told him,” Grandal told reporters.

    Anderson later shouted at Donaldson, prompting some of his White Sox teammates to hold him back. 

    “This game went through a period in time where a lot of those comments were meant, and I think we’re way past that,” Grandal added. “And it’s just unacceptable. I just thought it was a low blow, and I want to make sure I’ve got my team’s back. There’s no way that you’re allowed to say something like that.”‘

    Major League Baseball is investigating the incident.

    “I know … some talk of that. I’ve got to get to the bottom of it,” added Yankees manager Aaron Boone.

    The teams are scheduled to play in a doubleheader Sunday, the final time they meet in the regular season.

    Tiger Woods withdraws from PGA Championship

    Golfer Tiger Woods has decided to pull out of the PGA Championship after struggling in the third round on Saturday. 

    “Tiger Woods has informed us that he is withdrawing from the 2022 PGA Championship,” PGA of America President Jim Richerson said in a statement posted on Twitter. “We admire Tiger’s valiant effort to compete here at Southern Hills and wish him the best as he continues to recover from his injuries.”

    Woods, who is recovering from major leg injuries sustained in a car crash last spring, recorded a 79 in Saturday’s third round which was his worst score ever in a PGA championship.

    Woods could be seen grimacing in pain with a limp in his gait during the round.

    CBS reporter Amanda Renner said she spoke to Woods off camera following his round and said he was extremely sore and would not commit to playing the final round on Sunday.

    Facebook censored Blackburn post after she claimed ‘biological men have no place’ in female sports

    EXCLUSIVE: Social media giant Facebook has censored a post shared by Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., after she spoke out against biological males competing in women’s sports.

    “Biological men have no place in women’s sports,” Blackburn wrote, linking to a donation page that called on conservatives to “fight back against Big Tech censorship.”

    The post, which was shared to Blackburn’s personal Facebook page that has nearly 150,000 followers, was removed, according to Facebook, for violating “community standards on hate speech.”

    “Your post didn’t follow our Community Standards on hate speech,” Facebook wrote in an alert to Blackburn. “No one else can see your post.”

    In a statement to Fox News Digital regarding the censorship of the post, Blackburn said she refuses to be “silenced or threatened by Silicon Valley oligarchs.”

    “Big Tech and the Democrats are colluding to radically transform America,” Blackburn said. “They want to silence and censor conservatives for speaking out against their woke agenda. It does not take a biologist to know the difference between a man and a woman, and I will not be silenced or threatened by Silicon Valley oligarchs. Biological men have no place in women sports.”

    Blackburn, who garnered attention in March after she asked future Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to “provide a definition for the word woman,” has been a vocal supporter of protecting female sports in America and has repeatedly spoken out against biological males competing in them.

    In an effort to highlight the problems surrounding female sports allowing biological males to compete, Blackburn interviewed Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines, who tied with transgender swimmer Lia Thomas for fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle NCAA swimming championships in April on the “Unmuted with Marsha” podcast.

    Since taking office, Blackburn has opposed censorship in all forms from Big Tech companies like Facebook and Twitter.

    Blackburn wrote a letter in July to President Biden slamming his administration’s collaboration with Facebook to rid the platform of COVID-19 vaccine “misinformation” and suggesting the work could violate the First Amendment.

    “These revelations are deeply concerning,” the Tennessee Republican wrote in the letter. “The blatant actions by your administration to work with Big Tech companies to censor Americans’ free speech are shocking — and arguably a violation of the First Amendment.”

    Fox News did not receive an immediate response from Facebook.

    South Carolina governor signs transgender sports bill, competition based on birth certificate

    South Carolina’s Gov. Henry McMaster on Monday signed a bill that would require transgender students to compete in sports based on the gender specified on their birth certificate. 

    “I think the girls ought to play girls and the boys ought to play boys,” McMaster said earlier this month. When asked if he meant biological boys, the governor responded, “Are there any other kind?”

    Opponents have labeled the bill as “cruel” since it can prevent students who are not elite athletes and looking to fit in from engaging with their fellow students. Supporters say the bill protects female athletes from competing with opponents who may have an unfair advantage having been born male.

    “We welcome South Carolina to the growing number of states that have acted to preserve fair competition for all females, whether in grade school or college,” said Christiana Kiefer, lawyer for conservative Christian legal advocacy group Alliance Defending Freedom. “When the law ignores biological differences, it’s women and girls who bear the brunt of the harm.”

    South Carolina is the latest state to take up laws against transgender students, following the footsteps of governors in Arizona, Oklahoma and Tennessee. 

    South Carolina lawmakers have not yet considered stronger laws against transgendered children, such as Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott’s measure that would put such children in foster care.

    McMaster also signs the law after a federal district court temporarily blocked the enforcement of two Biden mandates that would force both nonprofit and for-profit religious employers and healthcare providers to pay for and perform transgender medical procedures and counseling. 

    District Judge Daniel M. Traynor of the U.S. District Court of North Dakota ruled that the Christian Employers Alliance “has shown a likelihood of success on the merits” in its case.

    “No government agency ought to be in the business of evaluating the sincerity of another’s religious beliefs,” Traynor wrote.

    House Republicans to make protecting women’s sports a ‘priority’ if they retake majority

    FIRST ON FOX: House Republicans will make protecting women’s sports a “priority” should they take back the lower chamber after the 2022 midterms, Fox News Digital has learned.

    The Republican Study Committee (RSC) is pushing to bring the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, led by Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., to the House floor via a discharge petition.

    A senior GOP aide told Fox News Digital that “protecting women’s sports will be a priority of a Republican majority.”

    A leadership aide also told Fox News Digital that Republican members view the issue as an important one.

    Republican members are gearing up to tackle the issue should the House flip in November, with RSC Chairman Jim Banks of Indiana telling Fox News Digital, “Americans overwhelmingly support allowing girls to compete on an even playing field.”

    “Protecting women’s sports is a winning issue for House Republicans and we are more united than ever around it,” Banks said. “For the sake of millions of female athletes, this bill absolutely should be a part of our post-2022 agenda.”

    Banks gave props to Steube for his leadership on the measure, thanking him, “Leader McCarthy and the over one hundred House Republicans who signed the Republican Study Committee’s discharge petition.”

    Steube told Fox News Digital that he had initially filed an amendment in the House Judiciary Committee for the Equality Act – which he said “completely redefined what a woman is and didn’t keep the protections for Title IX” – that failed on a party-line vote.

    The Florida Republican said after the amendment’s failure, he filed a standalone bill as well as made a motion to recommit on the House floor.

    “And there’s become so much attention to this issue because there are circumstance and example after example all over the country where this is happening,” Steube said. “Every day, women are losing scholarships.”

    Steube pointed to the case of University of Virginia swimmer Emma Weyant, the collegiate swimmer who came in second place behind transgender Penn swimmer Lia Thomas, noting that Weyant is from his district in Florida.

    The Florida Republican said the measure would need the support of “at least five” Democrats to pass the House before heading into the 50-50 split Senate.

    “And that’s the whole point: let’s put everybody on record as to where they stand on this issue,” Steube said. “Do you think the biological men should be able to compete against biological women in competitive athletic sports? And put everybody on the board of it on it.”

    Steube said he believes the issue of trangendered biological men competing in women’s sports “is going to be a piece to show how far the left has gone with their very far left progressive policies that the majority of Americans don’t support.”

    The congressman also noted that his legislation is “obviously a bill that President Biden is not going to sign” and that he “would think that this administration would support, even if we were able to pass it through the House and the Senate.”

    “So I do think this is going to be an issue that’s going to go on for the next several years,” he added.

    “Republicans will be the ones to stop the left’s political assault on women. We can’t let women’s sports become collateral damage in radical progressives’ campaign against a traditional, science-based understanding of sex and gender,” the long-serving Republican continued.

    With the need of five Democrats to get out of a full House vote alone, Republicans will have to garner the support of moderate blue members to have a hope of passing the bill.

    However, should the measure pass the House, it is unlikely to clear the split Senate without support in the upper chamber.

    That support is currently in short supply, though, as the Democrats are already feeling the pressure ahead of a tough midterm election and will likely not want to hand a win over to the GOP.

    WNBPA calls on Biden, Harris to help free Brittney Griner from detention in Russia

    The WNBA’s Players Association on Saturday called on the White House, President Biden, and Vice President Kamala Harris to do whatever is necessary to bring Brittney Griner back to the U.S.

    The plea comes after the WNBA star’s pre-trial detention was extended one month after her arrest in Russia. 

    “Today’s news on Brittney Griner was not unexpected, and the WNBA continues to work with the U.S. government to get BG home safely and as soon as possible,” the league said in a statement.

    Griner’s lawyer, Alexander Boykov, said he believed the short extension would mean her trial would happen soon.

    Griner was arrested in February for allegedly carrying vape cartridges containing oils derived from cannabis through an airport. Diplomats from the U.S. Embassy in Moscow spoke with Griner Friday and reported she “is doing as well as can be expected in these circumstances,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said.

    Over the weekend, the WNBPA and its members partnered with Tamryn Spruill, a journalist who created a Change.org petition that demanded legislators work urgently to gain the swift and safe release of Griner. 

    WNBA players speaking out about the petition included New York Liberty guard Sami Whitcomb and Washington Mystics stars Alysha Clark and Elizabeth Williams.

    “With the dynamic and history-making women of the WNBA now lending their names, voices, and platforms to this demand for the White House, President Joe Biden, and Vice President Kamala Harris to expedite efforts to win BG’s release, I am confident this petition will explode in size,” Spruill predicted in the petition.

    The 6-foot-9 center for the Phoenix Mercury was set to have her first hearing over allegations that carry a penalty of up to 10 years in prison. 

    With the WNBA season underway, a “BG 42” decal was placed on each of the league’s 12 courts.

    With the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks attempting to complete a fourth-quarter comeback for the second straight game and close out their Eastern Conference semifinal, Tatum made sure the Boston Celtics instead kept their season alive and forced a decisive seventh game.

    Tatum scored 46 points and the Celtics withstood a brilliant performance from Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo to win 108-95 on Friday night, the third straight victory for a road team in this thrilling series.

    After the Bucks reduced a 14-point deficit to four with just under 9 minutes left, Tatum took over the game. He scored 16 of Boston’s 26 fourth-quarter points.

    “I don’t think anybody’s won two games in a row in this series,” Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said. “Now, it’s the finality. You’ve got to go and find a way to get that fourth win and win the series. I think everybody in sport looks for that game. That college feel. That NCAA feel, where if you lose your season’s done, if you win, you keep going. It’s exciting.”

    The Bucks had won all eight of their potential series clinchers in Budenholzer’s four-year tenure before Friday. This marked the first time the Bucks had lost a possible clincher since a Game 7 defeat at Boston in a 2018 first-round series.

    “Tonight will be the first night since that game that I’ll get some sleep,” said Marcus Smart, who had 21 points, seven assists and no turnovers.

    Jaylen Brown added 22 points for the Celtics, who capitalized on their superiority from 3-point range. The Celtics were 17 of 43 and the Bucks 7 of 27 from beyond the arc.

    Antetokounmpo tried to lead the Bucks to a second straight improbable comeback.

    Boston led 84-70 in the opening minute of the fourth quarter and was up 84-73 when officials ruled Grant Williams had drawn a charge for Antetokounmpo’s fifth foul. But the Bucks challenged the call and it was overturned on replay, instead sending Antetokounmpo to the line with four fouls.

    Antetokounmpo made both free throws to start an 8-0 run that got the Bucks back into the game. The Bucks trimmed the margin to 85-81 on Antetokounmpo’s 3-pointer with 8:42 left.

    Tatum said he was thinking about that Game 5 collapse as the Bucks started to rally. He wanted to make sure the Bucks didn’t win the 50-50 balls and dominate the glass the way they did down the stretch on Wednesday.

    “They were tougher than us in that fourth quarter of Game 5,” Tatum said. “That was in the back of my mind. That was in the back of everybody’s mind, that we couldn’t get beat on those kind of plays. Our season was on the line.”

    Tatum wouldn’t let the Bucks get any closer.

    After that 8-0 Bucks spurt, Tatum scored the Celtics’ next 11 points. That included a fadeaway jumper as the shot clock expired to get the lead back to six plus a couple of 3-pointers.

    “He went into another mode right there,” Smart said. “We’d seen it in his eyes.”

    Tatum and Brown each hit a 3-pointer during an 8-0 spurt that closed with Smart’s jumper that made it 100-87 with 4:20 remaining.

    Boston maintained a double-digit edge the rest of the way.

    “We had the right resolve,” Celtics coach Ime Udoka said. “We talked about it after that game. We let an opportunity slip away (Wednesday) but we still had a chance to make it a better story, I guess.”

    New York Mets starter Tylor Megill and four relievers combined on the first no-hitter of the Major League Baseball season, teaming up to throw a whopping 159 pitches and beat the Philadelphia Phillies 3-0 Friday night.

    Megill was pulled after five innings and 88 pitches. The bullpen took over from there, with Drew Smith, Joely Rodríguez, Seth Lugo and Edwin Díaz completing the second no-hitter in Mets history.

    With the crowd of 32,416 standing and chanting “Let’s go, Mets,” Díaz finished it off in style, striking out Bryce Harper, Nick Castellanos and J.T. Realmuto in the ninth — all of them swinging.

    “Team game,” Megill said.

    “I’m ecstatic. It’s crazy,” he said. “First one I’ve been part of.”

    Mets pitchers combined to fan 12 and walk six.

    Johan Santana threw the Mets’ only previous no-hitter on June 1, 2012, when he struck out eight and needed 134 pitches in an 8-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Mets began play as an expansion team in 1962 and this was their 9,499th regular-season game.

    Mets center fielder Brandon Nimmo made the best defensive play, making a diving catch on Jean Segura’s sinking liner in right-center to end the third.

    “It looked close,” Megill said.

    The Mets poured on to the field and mobbed Díaz after the final out as a graphic picturing the five pitchers with the words “BLACK OUT” showed on the scoreboard.

    “It’s fun to watch,” Mets first-year manager Buck Showalter said.

    It was the 17th combined no-hitter in history and the first since the Milwaukee Brewers’ Corbin Burnes and Josh Hader teamed up to no-hit Cleveland last Sept. 11.

    A year ago, there were a record nine no-hitters in the majors.

    Last weekend, six Tampa Bay Rays pitchers combined to carry a no-hit bid into the 10th inning of a scoreless game against the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox broke up the no-hitter and scored twice in the top of the 10th but the Rays came back to win 3-2. By official MLB rules, it did not count as a no-hitter because Rays pitchers didn’t end the game allowing no hits.

    This was the first no-hitter against the Phillies since Josh Beckett pitched one for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2014.

    Megill (4-0) struck out five and walked three in his 23rd major league start. Smith got four outs, Rodriguez got three and Lugo recorded the last two outs in the eighth before Díaz took over.

    Jeff McNeil hit a two-run single in the fifth off Aaron Nola (1-3). Pete Alonso homered with two outs in the sixth.

    Major League Baseball suspended Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer on Friday for two seasons after allegedly violating the league’s’ policy on domestic violence and sexual assault.

    The suspension comes after a San Diego woman alleged that Bauer beat and sexually abused her last year after meeting on social media. Bauer denies her allegation in the “strongest possible terms.”
