New tea bar, restaurant coming to downtown Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Those looking for their favorite local blend of tea will soon be able to find it in downtown Jackson.
Liz Brister, the president of Downtown Jackson Partners, said on Friday that ‘Sippsi Good Tea will be bringing its operations to downtown Jackson in the form of a new tea counter.
The business is expected to be located next to the Pinnacle Building and will open in April.
“She bottles it. She also will serve hot tea on demand. We’ll have some breakfast and lunch things to nosh on as well,” Brister said. “It’s just the beginning of a lot of exciting announcements to come.”
‘Sippsi was founded by Chief Tea Officer Christina Berry during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the company’s website, ‘Sippsi offers a number of specialty flavors, including “Southern Hospitali-tea,” “Berry Southern,” “A Time to Tea,” and “Shade Tea Mechanic.”
Another business on tap for the downtown corridor includes “The Hen and Egg,” a new restaurant slated to open inside the remaining portion of the historic Sun-n-Sand Motor Hotel.
Two more developments planned for the near future could help boost business for those projects.
Brister also discussed the recent purchase of the Pinnacle Building and the former Deposit Guaranty Building by New Jersey developer Kumar Bhavanasi.
“What he has already announced publicly is going to be residential space. I can just imagine how beautiful these apartments are going to be… He’s also planning to bring a name-brand hotel into part of the space, so it will be mixed-use,” she said. “We’re very excited about that.”
Brister was appointed president of Downtown Jackson Partners on February 1. According to its website, DJP is “dedicated to revitalizing and growing downtown Jackson” and working to “enhance the area’s economic vitality, residential appeal, and overall quality of life.”
Brister replaces John Gomez, who stepped down from the position last year.
