RIDGELAND, Miss. (WLBT) – A Ridgeland homeowner has been worrying that her neighbor’s dead tree leaning over her property will do more damage. It’s been an issue since January.

Recent rains brought down part of the tree on her house, but Mother Nature had a plot twist.

The leaning tree saga continues on Lincolnshire Boulevard in Ridgeland.

This time, one of the neighbor’s dead trees actually fell onto her own house.

“She took care of her property while ignoring ours, and that’s sad,” said Bankeni Monzili Tillman.

On Friday morning, while checking to make sure the dead pine hadn’t fallen onto her property, Tillman was shocked to see another dead tree resting on her neighbor’s roof.

While she watched, a tree service worked to remove it. The fallen tree left damage to Carol Thompson’s house.

“I was surprised and, like I said, I would not rejoice over anybody’s loss. I pray that for the better for all of us,” said Tillman. “I was just praying that this would have been resolved by now, but obviously it is not.”

Another tree is damaged and tilted not far from the first hazard.

Two weeks ago, a limb from the leaning pine pierced the roof – leaving three holes in Tillman’s roof. She was stunned that workers left without addressing her property.

“I don’t understand why she’s doing what she’s doing, but I sure do hope that she finds it in her heart to be a better citizen and a better neighbor,” added Tillman.

The retired veteran and federal employee said the City of Ridgeland responded while Thompson’s tree was being removed and informed her a contractor would be out this week to remove the dead trees.

Meanwhile, Tillman has contacted her insurance company which she said has started the process of pursuing Thompson’s homeowners insurance company.
