JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – More counties are implementing burn bans, citing drought and wildfire conditions.

On Monday, the Hinds County Board of Supervisors and Copiah County Board of Supervisors signed off on the bans.

Hinds County’s ban is in place until April 1. Outdoor fires and burning are prohibited per Mississippi state statute.

According to the Mississippi Forestry Commission, other counties with bans include Warren, Rankin, Simpson, Lawrence, Jefferson Davis, Walthall, Pike, Amite, Franklin, Adams, and Wilkinson.

The ban comes after the State Forestry Commission determined drought and wildfire conditions exist.

Activities not allowed include: campfires, bonfires, fire pits, fire rings, burn barrels, debris burning, and field burning.

Propane and gas grills, propane and gas heaters, and charcoal grills are still allowed, according to the commission’s website.
