JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A major announcement came Friday from the developers of the Metrocenter Mall that includes new construction, a manufacturing site, and local jobs.

Biocrete Global Manufacturing and eMerchant Capital announced new innovative material production for commercial and residential construction.

While the Metrocenter developers revamp the decades-old shopping mall, plans include a vital component: a manufacturing facility here to employ hundreds.

Biocrete Global Manufacturing and eMerchant Capital announced plans to build a company that will produce a new product on the property.

Officials said the lightweight, polystyrene concrete is recycled Styrofoam and concrete. It is fireproof and bulletproof, mold and termite resistant, and insulation free. The product will be used to construct the building that will employ 200 people.

“Our demand for the product is great and growing that we can pay a livable wage and we’re gonna be very competitive in that, and we’re gonna start right away,” said Biocrete Global Manufacturing CEO Chris Jones. “You have a chance to create meaningful, well-paying jobs. The manufacturing component really serves as an anchor for the entire project.”

A re-zoning request was presented to the city earlier this week. The building is expected to be completed by summer. The product is described as reducing construction costs by 30%.

“We’ve got to rebuild Jackson. We’re paying the highest taxes in America in the city limits of Jackson,” said District 3 Hinds County Supervisor Deborah Dixon. “And we’ve got to bring some revenue into Jackson. It will be good for Jackson and it will be good for Hinds County.”

Jones said the manufacturing facility will be located behind the Metrocenter Mall in an area that divides Ring Road and Lynch Street.

Positions at the manufacturing facility will start at $19 an hour.

Job fairs will be January 13-15. The first is Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Jackson Medical Mall Community Room.
