ADAMS COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) – Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten confirmed late Friday evening that Myco Fort was captured.

Fort was arrested near the Northgate area of Morgantown.

He will be charged with grand larceny, escape, and destruction of county property.

He has been transported to the Adams County Jail.

Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten offered more details about how a man was able to escape from the Adams County Jail earlier Friday.

The incident occurred early Friday morning when Myco Fort, 21, was able to escape.

Fort was in jail for burglary. He was serving as a trusty.

Patten tells WLBT he received a call about the escape around 3:30 a.m.

He immediately started a search for the suspect and began an investigation into how he got out.

“Dereliction of duty is why he was able to walk out of this jail,” the sheriff said.

Patten went on to say that Fort was able to find a key to an unmarked police unit. He then crashed that unit near 48 Morgantown Rd.

Authorities say Fort left the scene and went on to the Oakland subdivision across the street, where he was last seen on camera.

At around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, the sheriff still believed Fort was in the Morgantown area, and a one-mile perimeter had been set up.
