Man sentenced in 1984, captured by authorities after escaping state penitentary
PARCHMAN, Miss. (WLBT) – An inmate that was sentenced to life in prison for murder escaped from the Mississippi Department of Correction’s custody but was captured shortly after.
According to MDOC, state inmate Nevin Whetstone, who escaped from the Mississippi State Penitentiary, was captured in Sunflower County on Friday.
Whetstone was captured with the help of local, state, and federal authorities, according to MDOC.
Whetstone is serving a life sentence for capital murder committed in Lee County and one year for escape from the Sunflower County Jail.
He was sentenced on December 14, 1984.
