RANKIN CO., Miss. (WLBT) – A man has pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated DUI in connection with a deadly crash on Interstate 20.

At 11:50 p.m. on August 21, 2023, the Mississippi Highway Patrol and other local law enforcement agencies responded to a two-car crash on I-20 near the Crossgates exit in Brandon.

Hattie Lorene O’Neal, an 85-year-old woman, was killed when a Dodge Ram driven by 38-year-old Marcal Joshua Collins collided with a Honda Accord driven by O’Neal’s son, Ty.

During the investigation, officers determined that Collins had been driving the wrong way on the interstate and caused the violent head-on collision.

Officers immediately suspected Collins of DUI due to a strong smell of alcohol. Collins then admitted to having several vodka drinks, and officers recovered two vodka bottles from his truck.

On Tuesday, Collins was sentenced to serve 25 years in the state penitentiary.
