Man arrested after woman found shot in yard in Jackson
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A man is under arrest after a woman was found shot in a yard on the corner of Cromwell Street and Rutledge Avenue.
At approximately 6:30 p.m., Precinct 3 officers responded to the scene for a shooting.
After arriving, they found the deceased body of a 36-year-old Black woman lying in the front yard of a residence.
The victim had received one gunshot wound and had succumbed to her injury.
Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Robbery/homicide unit detectives, mobile crime unit and the coroner were called to the scene.
Several individuals were taken to JPD headquarters to be interviewed, including the suspect in this case, 42-year-old Lincoln Thomas.
Thomas was booked into city holding and charged with murder.
He is awaiting his initial appearance in Municipal Court.
This is the third Jackson homicide in less than 24 hours.
