PEARL, Miss. (WLBT) – Pearl police have charged a Jackson man in Saturday’s chain-reaction crash that injured two police officers.

Police say Jeremy Sherrod Coats is behind bars for felony fleeing and is held without bond.

Greg Flynn with PPD said two police were pursuing a suspect near Highway 80 and Highway 49 late Saturday when one of the officers stopped to make the arrest.

The officer stopped along the Highway 80 bridge westbound, the department says, when two other officers came to assist as a backup.

PPD says one of the officers driving to the scene did not see that the cars stopped and ended up crashing into both police cars, but the officers are recovering.

In a Facebook post, police said, “We are relieved to let everyone know that three of our police officers involved in an accident Saturday night will be OK. One officer remains in the hospital and two others were treated and released. We thank everyone for their prayers and support. The driver of a vehicle they were pursuing is in custody and was not injured. The incident is under investigation. We also thank all the surrounding agencies that responded so quickly to assist.”
