CARROLL CO., Miss. (WLBT) – Two men are in custody after leading Carroll County deputies on unrelated chases.
On Friday, August 16, Carroll County deputies attempted to pull over a vehicle on Highway 7 in the Avalon area.
The driver refused to pull over and fled from authorities.
A press release says deputies pursued the vehicle with assistance from the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department and the Greenwood Police Department.
Spike strips were utilized to stop the suspect.
Arlin Ray Roberson, 35, of Greenville, was arrested and booked into Carroll County Regional Correctional Facility. He faces charges of felony fleeing and felony possession of Methamphetamines.
Judge Ronnie Hicks set Roberson’s bond at $40,000.
In an unrelated incident, deputies attempted to stop a stolen vehicle traveling north on I-55 near Vaiden on Monday, August 19.
According to the press release, the driver refused to stop and fled north, going over 100mph.
Even though spike strips were deployed, 22-year-old Demetrius Harbin of Holcomb still refused to stop and crossed the median, traveling north in the southbound lane of I-55 at dangerous speeds.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office tells WLBT 3 On Your Side that deputies were eventually able to perform pit maneuvers, which ended the chase.
Deputies arrested Harbin and booked him into the Carroll County Regional Correctional Facility.
He is facing charges of felony fleeing, possession of stolen property, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. The aggravated assault charge stems from Harbin ramming law enforcement vehicles.
Authorities say the vehicle Harbin was driving was stolen from Byram.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, the Winona Police Department, the Grenada County Sheriff’s Department, and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks assisted in this chase.
Sheriff Walker said, “I thank the Lord that no one was injured due to the reckless and dangerous actions of both of these suspects. Having a good working relationship with neighboring law enforcement agencies makes all the difference at times like these. I thank all the agencies who worked with us to get these dangerous drivers off the streets.”
