JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Letitia Johnson released a statement following the State Senate District 26 runoff election results Tuesday.

Johnson came in with 44.1% of votes, with Kamesha Mumford taking the majority with 55.9% of votes.

“While tonight’s results were not what we hoped for, I accept them with respect for the democratic process and with gratitude for every single person who stood with us,” stated Johnson.

Johnson thanks her family, friends, volunteers, and voters.

“We may not have won the race, but we built something real—something that does not end tonight,” said Johnson.

Johnson says she remains committed to serving the community, uplifting the people of the state, and pushing for progress.

She also made a statement to Mumford, saying, “To my opponent: I wish you success. Our community deserves leadership that listens and leads with integrity, and I truly hope you will rise to that responsibility.”
