Kansas City sports reporter dies while on assignment in New Orleans
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – An investigation has opened into the tragic passing of a Telemundo KC reporter who was on assignment in New Orleans for the Super Bowl.
Telemundo KC announced on Thursday, Feb. 6, that Adan Manzano, 27, an anchor and reporter on assignment to cover the Super Bowl in New Orleans, has passed away. The media outlet continues to cooperate with law enforcement officials as they investigate the tragic event.
Telemundo described Manzano as a true professional and a rising star who exemplified excellence in his work.
“We will deeply miss Adan and his passion for sports, and the contributions he made to the local community,” said Steve Downing, KGKC Telemundo Kansas City General Manager. “Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Manzano, a Mexico City native and Topeka resident, earned his degree from Kansas State University. He joined the Chiefs Television Crew at the beginning of the 2024 season as a sideline reporter.
Manzano’s death was felt throughout the community as the Kansas Association of Broadcasters and Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas both shared condolences:
We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Adan Manzano-Aguilar. Adan was a dedicated sports journalist covering the Super Bowl for both Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports in New Orleans when this tragedy occurred.

Adan was so young and full of energy, and truly covered almost every event in the community. So very sad to see this news. My condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
Our hearts are grieving today with our Telemundo and TICO family. Adan was a cherished member of the Kansas City soccer community, and his legacy and impact will not be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with Adan’s loved ones.
According to KCTV5 sister station, WIBW, Manzano’s wife passed away in April as the result of a car crash in Topeka. She was an elementary school teacher. The couple leaves behind one child, a toddler.
As of 1 p.m. on Thursday, information about the circumstances of Manzano’s passing remains scarce. The coroner’s office has confirmed that his autopsy remains pending.
