JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – The Jackson Fire Department is investigating after a synagogue fire early Saturday morning.

At approximately 3:10 a.m., JFD units responded to reports of a fire at Beth Israel Congregation on Old Canton Road.

According to JFD Division Fire Chief Charles Felton, upon arrival at the scene, units found flames coming from the windows and all doors were secured.

After the fire was extinguished, units could not determine the origin of the incident and so a fire investigator was requested.

Fire investigators are still working to find the cause of the flames.

The synagogue was closed at the time of the fire and there were no reported injuries, Felton said.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.

No further information has been released at this time.
