Jackson Academy responds to lawsuit alleging illegal recruiting, wrongful removal of student

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Jackson Academy has released a statement following the lawsuit the school faces, which alleges illegal athletic recruiting practices.

In early January, a local family, the Voyles, filed suit against JA and Edward Wettach, the head of its school, after their son was removed from the institution after his father, Jason, shared the allegations with two other parents of Jackson Academy students in June 2025.

JA filed a response to the legal complaint on January 30 in Hinds County Court.

The institution argues that the removal of the Voyles’ son for the 2025-26 school year was justified because the allegations:

  • Created and circulated an “inflammatory flyer” featuring photos and information about incoming public school transfer students
  • Made unfounded accusations about illegal recruiting practices
  • Recorded conversations without consent
  • Engaged in harassment and rumor-spreading
  • Violated school policies on parent conduct

JA also said that the Voyles agreed to binding arbitration for “any and all disputes” and are, therefore, attempting to enforce that arbitration clause.

Attached below are the court documents.

On Monday, February 2, Jackson Academy released the following statement.
