Hinds County deputy killed during shooting on Dorgan Street in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A Hinds County deputy was killed in a homicide on Dorgan Street in Jackson on Sunday, and the Jackson Police Department is looking for a suspect.

This, according to Interim Jackson Police Chief and Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones, who made the announcement Monday morning.

According to JPD, a shooting occurred at approximately 6:47 p.m. on Nov. 2.

Upon arrival, JPD learned that the victim, identified as 32-year-old James Dotson, had been shot at the location.

He was with the agency for eight years.

Dotson was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to JPD, Dotson’s vehicle was taken from his home by the suspect, Ladarien Tyrese Jones.

On Tuesday, JPD, with the assistance of HCSO, recovered the gray 2020 Dodge Challenger in the parking lot of a north Jackson apartment complex.

The vehicle was towed to the Crime Lab to be processed for evidence.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Jones, 26, for murder and auto theft.
