GLUCKSTADT, Miss. (WLBT) – Officers with the Gluckstadt Police Department arrested a man with nearly half a pound of fentanyl pills after a traffic stop Friday.

Officers began a traffic stop on a northbound vehicle on Interstate 55 just past Exit 112 (Gluckstadt Road).

When officers stopped the suspect, Frederick Douglas Porter, officers immediately smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to Gluckstadt PD.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of fentanyl pills, weighing just under half a pound, along with a small amount of marijuana and a Glock 9mm handgun.

Porter was taken into custody and charged with the following offenses:

  • Careless Driving
  • Failure to Wear a Seatbelt

After being processed at the Gluckstadt Police Department, Porter was transported to the Madison County Detention Facility, where he will await his initial appearance in Gluckstadt Municipal Court.

Gluckstadt PD says the department “remains committed to removing dangerous drugs like fentanyl from our streets. The impact of fentanyl on communities across the country has been devastating, and every effort to prevent its distribution is a step toward ensuring public safety.”
