Four juveniles, one adult arrested after alleged drug deal leads to shooting in Byram
BYRAM, Miss. (WLBT) – Four juveniles and one adult were arrested following a shooting in Byram.
According to the Byram Police Department, the shooting happened on Tuesday and involved a male Jackson resident who was allegedly attempting to distribute illegal narcotics in Byram.
A release stated that the man traveled to Byram with the intent to sell the drugs when multiple subjects ambushed him.
The suspects reportedly attempted to rob the man of his firearm, resulting in the situation escalating and gunfire being exchanged.
The victim was struck once and managed to drive away from the scene before crashing along Byram Drive.
Following the investigation, four juveniles and one adult, identified as Thomas Rawlings, were taken into custody. The identities of the four juveniles were not released.
All five suspects are facing charges ranging from aggravated assault, armed robbery, shooting into an occupied dwelling, shooting into an occupied vehicle, tampering with evidence, and hindering prosecution.
Additional charges may be forthcoming.
