Former Brandon High School baseball player signs MLB contract

BRANDON, Miss. (WLBT) – A Brandon High School baseball standout has put pen to paper on an MLB deal.

On Saturday, Jay McQueen officially announced that he would forgo college ball to play professionally, signing with the MLB’s Texas Rangers.

McQueen was selected in the 20th round of the 2025 MLB Draft.

The Bulldog led Brandon to the 2024 MHSAA 7a State Championship victory, the school’s first state championship win since 1967. McQueen was also named the series MVP.

McQueen and the Bulldogs fell just short of going back-to-back this past season, being runners-up to Madison Central.

The outfielder/pitcher ended his senior season with a .435 batting average, .503 on-base percentage, 54 hits, and 39 RBIs with a 2.98 ERA and 40 strikeouts on the mound.
