CLINTON, Miss. (WLBT) – Amazon Web Services (AWS) marked the opening of its fourth data center in the state with a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday in Hinds County, an investment that could offer more than 100 jobs.
The ceremony included remarks from Rob Sim, president and CEO of the Clinton Chamber of Commerce, who thanked Amazon for its partnership and said the project could help support local businesses, including the hospitality industry.

“Clinton has created an environment that is welcoming,” Sim said.
Officials with the Hinds County Economic Development Authority said the site had previously been abandoned and revived after conversations began in July 2025, turning what they described as “an opportunity” into a finished project in 11 months.
Speakers referenced SB 2001 from the 2024 legislative session, sharing it helped projects like this move forward more efficiently.
AWS is celebrating 20 years and the continuation to build data centers around the world, according to Roger Wehner, vice president of AWS Economic Development.
“This is an exciting day in Mississippi,” Wehner said.
Wehner said the Industrial Park Drive site will use newer approaches to operations, including not utilizing water coolants and being a 100% renewable, carbon free energy facility.

Local leaders said the project is expected to expand employment opportunities, bringing over 100 technology jobs in the area and supporting the progression of economic growth in the county.
