NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – I-55 South from Ponchatoula to LaPlace was shut down Friday (Feb. 7) morning after a crash involving multiple commercial vehicles occurred.

State police say an 18-wheeler overturned in St. John the Baptist Parish on the raised bridge and recovery efforts followed the incident.

Traffic was diverted onto the “low road”, the Old Highway 51 service road.

State police have not shared details about how the crash occurred but dense fog was in effect in the area, limiting visibility.
