HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WLBT) – It was a historic weekend for a red-hot No. 12-ranked Southern Miss baseball club.

Southern Miss head baseball coach Christian Ostrander earned his 100th win at the helm of the storied program

Ostrander, who took over head coaching duties after the departure of the legendary Scott Berry three seasons ago, achieved this feat in just 137 games, the fastest in school history.

“I am so thankful to be in this position as there is no where else that I want to be,” Ostrander said. “I am very honored to lead this program. One-hundred wins is a byproduct of the players, (assistant) coaches, and support staff. We have a great staff, who are great people across the board. It’s a collective effort, and I am very humbled to be able to do what we are doing in leading this program.”

This was capped off by a USM sweep of rival Louisiana Tech on the road in Ruston over the weekend, which included a run-rule victory.

The last time Southern Miss swept the Bulldogs away from home was in 2009, when the Golden Eagles last made the trip to Omaha.

Ostrander’s Golden Eagles are back in action Tuesday night against in-state rival Mississippi State.

First pitch is at 6 p.m. from Pete Taylor Park on ESPN+.
