Dad earns new respect for child’s teacher after chaperoning field trip: ‘They listened about as good as goldfishes’

A dad in Oregon is urging his fellow parents to thank their children’s teachers after chaperoning his daughter’s field trip — and earning entirely new respect for the profession.

“I haven’t had a drink in 16 years, but I wanted a drink today. I wanted one real bad,” wrote Clint Edwards on Facebook, after returning from a trip to the pumpkin patch with his 5-year-old daughter’s kindergarten class.

“This trip left me with an incredible respect for people who work with young children all day. I only had five in my group, and they listened about as good as goldfishes,” he continued in his Facebook post. “The whole time I was afraid I’d lose one in the cornfield, they’d never be found, and ultimately end up as the premise for a Stephen King novel.”

As Edwards explained, it wasn’t so much his own daughter that he minded, but rather the job of watching five kids — all his daughter’s age — while trying to maintain some semblance of control.

On the flip side, he said his daughter’s teacher appeared to have a great handle on the situation, specifically when it came to the task of successfully instructing a class full of 5-year-olds to swap out their muddy shoes — twice — to avoid tracking dirt on the bus.

“I’m pretty sure if she listed this act on her resume, she’d be as respected as any military general,” wrote Edwards, before likening her command of the situation to be “on par with Batman.”

Edwards, a dad of three who also runs the parenting blog “No Idea What I’m Doing: A Daddy Blog,” then urged anyone reading to show more appreciation to their kids’ teachers.

“If you are a teacher reading this, give yourself a huge pat on the back. You are incredible. And if you know a teacher, give them a huge thank you.”

He continued to heap praise on educators in the comments section, after several teachers reached out to thank him for his kind words.

“You are very welcome and thank you for loving our children,” he told one preschool teacher.

“I ended the afternoon with a long hot soak in the bath, TOO many cookies, and a handful of Tylenol,” Edwards said of his recovery plan after the big field trip.
(Facebook/No Idea What I Am Doing: A Daddy Blog)

Oh, and after the trip, Edwards conceded he tried to recuperate the best way he could manage.

“Between the mud at the pumpkin patch, and the smell on the bus that I couldn’t quite identify, but was probably a virus, and that one wild little boy that is either destined to be a groundbreaking artist or an inmate, I ended the afternoon with a long hot soak in the bath, TOO many cookies, and a handful of Tylenol,” Edwards wrote.

Louis Vuitton designer declares Trump ‘a joke’ after Texas workshop visit

In a dig that went beyond a fashion statement, the creative director of Louis Vuitton slammed President Trump as “a joke” following the commander in chief’s visit to the French brand’s new workshop in Alvarado, Texas, last week.

Designer Nicolas Ghesquière blasted Trump in a recent Instagram post after the president appeared at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the luxury retailer’s new leather workshop in Johnson County on Thursday.

“Standing against any political action. I am a fashion designer refusing this association,” Ghesquière wrote, adding the hashtags #Trumpisajoke and #Homophobia, and sharing an image of the album cover of Evelyn Thomas’ 1984 tune “High Energy.”

A spokesperson for LVMH, Louis Vuitton’s parent company, was not immediately available to comment. The fashion house has not yet publically commented on Ghesquière’s statement.

Trump met with LVMH chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault, Arnault’s son Alexandre, and Louis Vuitton chairman and CEO Michael Burke, accompanied by White House senior advisers Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner on Oct. 17, WWD reported.

The opening of the Alvarado leather workshop is part of LVMH’s pledge to create 1,000 jobs in the area as part of the president’s Pledge to America’s Workers program.

The U.S. is said to be the most valuable market in the world for the luxury goods conglomerate, which WWD describes as the industry’s “most powerful luxury fashion titan.” American spending marks 25 percent of the company’s total business, at over $10 billion a year.

Arnault emphasized that it was an “honor” to have Trump visit the Vuitton workshop, while Burke echoed that the factory’s opening was “about jobs, not a political statement,” according to the outlet.

“We are very honored to have the president of the United States. I’m not here to judge any types of policies,” Arnault said at the event, according to WWD, acknowledging that he and Trump have known each other since the 1980s.

“I’m here to work with my brand and we are going to, over five years, have 1,000 people working here and that’s what matters,” he added.

“It’s about jobs, it’s not a political statement,” Burke agreed. “This is about engaging with the president of the United States overriding economic goal of bringing jobs back to the United States.”

Electric MINI to set Nurburgring track record without using brakes

Germany’s famous Nurburgring racetrack is home to regular record attempts, typically set by the world’s fastest cars to test their cornering and braking ability and sheer power and acceleration.

(Mini)

It’s the diverse selection of corners, dips and undulations in its 12.9 miles length that makes it such an appealing benchmark for performance vehicles.

But British car brand Mini is planning to set a new record — one where the driver sets a brisk lap without touching the brake pedal.

The publicity stunt will be done to highlight the adjustable regenerative braking in the all-electric Mini Cooper SE, due in Australia in mid-2020.

BMW-owned Mini has been late to the party on allowing drivers to adjust the level of energy recuperation, which gives the effect of pressing the brake pedal by reversing the flow of energy in the electric motor.

Mini says it will be trying to achieve “maximum efficiency” in tackling the challenging Nurburgring track without using the brake pedal.

The Mini Cooper SE is powered by a 135kW electric motor claimed to get the car to 100km/h in 7.3 seconds; brisk but far from ballistic.

A toggle switch allows the level of energy regeneration — or auto braking — to change between soft or “particularly aggressive”, the latter providing 0.19g of force without having to touch the brake pedal.

“The technological innovation offers the incentive for a very special type of challenge,” the brand said in announcing its planned challenge.

EV manufacturers still have different views on the best form of regenerative braking.

Nissan has developed an “e-Pedal”, for example, which when activated dials up more aggressive regenerative braking, even bringing the car to a complete stop.

Hyundai allows adjustment of the regenerative braking via paddles on the steering wheel.

And Tesla allows selection of two regenerative braking levels using the touchscreen.

Most electric cars typically provide some level of regenerative braking, although when the batteries are full it can be reduced.

But for Porsche’s upcoming Taycan — which recently set a time of 7 minutes, 42 seconds around the Nurburgring — the car simply coasts in its regular mode, as any petrol-powered car would if you lifted off the accelerator at speed. However, the driver can select some mild regenerative braking at the press of a button.

Whether Mini’s Nurburgring attack will create a new challenge among EV manufacturers remains to be seen.

No doubt Tesla — which is desperately trying to beat the time recently set by the Porsche Taycan — will be up for the challenge.

Worst drivers still on the road thanks to loopholes

Court convicts car reviewer who posted high speed video to Facebook

Car reviewer and YouTube channel host Joe Achilles posted a clip of him driving an Audi R8 supercar on a narrow road against oncoming traffic to Facebook last November. He is being convicted by a U.K. court after prosecutors used his own video as evidence against him.

Britain’s worst driver is still on the road despite racking up 78 points in just four years.

The penalty points-laden motorist from Bradford, West Yorkshire. tops the list of more than 10,000 drivers who are still behind the wheel despite repeated driving endorsements.

The unnamed offender must have committed at least eight driving offenses in a four year period – but most likely much much more.

COURT CONVICTS DRIVER WHO POSTED HIGH SPEED VIDEO TO FACEBOOK

The second worst driver who is still behind the wheel is a 48-year-old man from Faversham, Kent who has 66 points.

The country’s worst female driver is a 33-year-old from Burnley, Lancs who has clocked up 49 points.

Drivers are usually banned if they receive 12 points on their license.

However, 10,858 motorists across Britain have that tally or more – and are still able to drive.

Of those, 261 have a whopping 20 or more points, according to Department for Transport figures.

The oldest repeat offender is an 81-year-old woman, who is still allowed to drive despite having 25 points on her license.

The youngest is a 17-year-old, who has racked up 19 points in less than a year of being on the road.

Motorists receive penalty points for a variety of offenses, including speeding, dangerous driving and not having insurance.

The vast majority of offenses stay on your license for four years, apart from causing death or injury by driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

This means it’s likely that Britain’s worst driver has racked up his 78 points in the last four years.

The highest number of penalty points a motorist can be slapped with is 11, for causing death by driving under the influence.

Motorists can tot up huge points totals – and still be able to drive – if their offense was dealt with by a banning order or prison sentence in court.

After serving their time, drivers can reapply for their license which will still have all of the points they have racked up.

Dangerous drivers can also dodge bans by convincing magistrates they will face “exceptional hardship” if they lose their license.

If the motorist or a family member will be seriously affected by a ban, magistrates can waive it.

This means drivers can rack up huge numbers of points and stay on the road.

RAC spokesman Rod Dennis said: “On the face of it, the thought of somebody still being allowed to drive after accumulating 78 penalty points for poor driving is truly horrifying.

“And it suggests some drivers are repeatedly breaking the law – perhaps being caught by multiple speed cameras.

“But it’s the case that these drivers can escape a driving ban if they can prove to magistrates that by having one would lead to ‘exceptional hardship’.”

The road safety charity Brake is campaigning for the Government to block this loophole.

Tiller & Hatch Supply Co. reportedly developed its business idea with “preeminent brand developer” Launched.LA, aiming for each meal to be quick and cost-effective for families, according to the release. The meals themselves — which consist of family-sized entrees designed to be prepared in pressure cookers — were created by Bruce Hecker, the namesake of Bruce’s Catering, a catering firm said to be known for “serving the entertainment industry.”

A British car reviewer and chauffeur company owner has been convicted of speeding by a U.K. court after prosecutors used his own video as evidence against him.

Joe Achilles, who has hosted a YouTube channel with over 57,000 subscribers, posted the clip of him driving an Audi R8 supercar on a narrow road against oncoming traffic to Facebook last November, SWNS reported.

During an unrelated investigation, the Derbyshire Constabulary’s Roads Policing Unit spotted the video and did some investigative work to figure out how fast Achilles was driving, even though his speedometer wasn’t visible. Based on landmarks in the video, officers were able to pinpoint 11 average speeds, which reached as high as 93 mph on the twisty 50-mph road.

I drove a $350,000 Ford Bronco and you should buy it

Gateway Bronco is a surprising success story that may get a lot better if the Trump administration has anything to say about it.

(FoxNews.com)

Launched three years ago in the small farm town of Hamel, Ill., by Seth Burgett, an entrepreneur with a penchant for classic trucks, it restores original Ford Broncos with modern engines and parts and sells them for a penny as pretty as they are.

Gateway Bronco's manufacturing facility is located about 30 miles outside of St. Louis.

Gateway Bronco’s manufacturing facility is located about 30 miles outside of St. Louis.
(Google Street View)

Back then, one of Gateway’s builds started at $80,000, but they’re so popular that now they run from $150,000 to over $300,000 and have earned an official license from Ford. Those may be “more money than brains” prices to many, but Burgett’s the smart one. He has about 20 people on staff turning out one truck a week and says the demand is there for him to nearly quintuple his output and increase employment to 100, which would represent more than 10 percent of Hamel’s population. Unfortunately for them, Gateway is tied down in red tape like a rodeo calf.

(FoxNews.com)

Right now, all it can do is find an old truck and fix it up, which takes 600-1,000 man-hours each, and there are only so many of them to go around. But it would like to do much more than that. There are suppliers ready to start shipping Gateway brand-new frames and bodies that it can turn into all-new first-generation Broncos.

(FoxNews.com)

Under current law, that’s nearly impossible due to the huge costs required to certify a new vehicle in the U.S. But in 2015, the U.S. Congress passed the Low Volume Vehicle Manufacturers Act, which would allow companies like Gateway to build up to 325 historic replicas annually without having to meet industry safety standards, as long as they use emissions-compliant powertrains.

(Gateway Bronco)

There are dozens of boutique builders across the country like Gateway that are ready to add production and jobs and all that’s needed is for NHTSA to finalize the rules. However, it hasn’t taken any action in the years since, prompting their industry group, SEMA, to file a lawsuit last week to force the issue. NHTSA, which is operating under an acting administrator, hasn’t explained the delay, but Burgett is optimistic that the latest action will finally push the regulations across the line.

(FoxNews.com)

In the meantime, he’s built a very special truck worth $350,000, but hopes someone will pay a lot more for than that. The one-off custom is a collaboration with NASCAR star Ryan Blaney, who commissioned it for a charity auction to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association. The third-generation driver’s grandfather, Lou, died from the disease in 2009 at 69 after an impressive racing career of his own.

(Gateway Bronco)

Gateway started with a 1974 Bronco, refreshed and replaced its body panels as needed, installed a modern four-link suspension with high performance Fox shock absorbers, swapped in a 700 hp supercharged 5.0-liter V8 and 6-speed automatic transmission that sends power to billet aluminum wheels through modern Eaton Trutrac locking differentials.

(FoxNews.com)

Inside, the original Bronco look has been preserved with new replica parts, including electric window switches disguised to look like manual crank handles.

Unique touches on this truck include Porsche-sourced leather upholstery and barn wood trim in the cargo box branded with the logo from Blaney and Sons Lumber, Lou’s business.

(FoxNews.com)

Gateway designs its own exhausts to give each a signature sound, and I discovered on a spin through Manhattan that the Blaney Bronco has a window-rattling one. The truck, however, is solid as a rock. You’ll never find an old one that rides as well, though the steering feel through the wood-rimmed wheel is a little vague in that lifted truck on big tires sort of way.

PATENT SUGGESTS NEW FORD BRONCO WILL BE COMPLETELY TOPLESS

“That’s better than any supercar I see around here,” one construction worker told us as we passed through Times Square, unaware that it cost more than most of them. Such is the Bronco’s enduring appeal.

After finishing a promotional tour of automotive events, the Bronco is scheduled to cross the block at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., in January.

Girl, 3, eats 18 cups of yogurt after she was left unattended, dad’s funny photo shows

A dad in the U.K. says he wasn’t even angry — but rather concerned and impressed — after his 3-year-old daughter managed to eat 18 cups of yogurt in the 10 minutes she was left unattended.

Arron Whysall, from Nottingham, England, recently shared a hilarious photo of his accomplished-looking daughter Olivia sitting in front of the empty yogurts, which she took from the refrigerator when Whysall was fixing a fence in the backyard.

Aaron Whysall (right, with daughter Olivia) said he wasn't even angry, but rather concerned and impressed at his daughter's ability to scarf down 10 yogurts.

“I couldn’t believe it,” he told the Mirror, adding that he immediately called over fiancee Billie Hardie, to come survey the scene.

“She said, ‘There’s no way she has eaten all of them,’” Whysall said. “But I told her, ‘I think she has because she’s just told me she has.’”

Whysall says it was their son Oscar who came outside and alerted him to Olivia’s snacking, although he admits he wasn’t expecting to see Olivia sitting in front of 18 empty Yoplait yogurts when he got inside.

“I couldn’t even tell her off for it because it was just too funny. I was more overwhelmed than anything,” he said.

Whysall also figured he should snap a photo and share it online, where it has received a tremendous response.

He also explained to the Mirror that Hardie is self-employed as a child-care worker, which is why she keeps bulk yogurts in the refrigerator. He also confirmed that, from now on, all the yogurts will be stored on the top shelf.

As for Olivia, Whysall said she didn’t suffer any gastric repercussions following the binge, and even managed to eat her entire dinner later that night.

“She does love her snacks,” he told the Mirror.

Mom spots terrifying ‘ghost baby’ in son’s crib; says she ‘could kill’ husband after learning cause

Halloween came early to an Illinois mom of two after her husband forgot an important step while making their son’s bed.

Maritza Cibuls, 32, was getting ready for bed after putting her 18-month-old baby boy to sleep in his crib. However, when she went to check the baby monitor, she was so frightened by what she saw that she “barely” got any shut-eye: On the video monitor’s display, Cibuls saw what she thought was a “ghost baby” snuggled up next to her son in bed.

Cibuls took a picture of the monitor and said at first she thought her eyes were playing tricks on her and “tried to ignore it” before getting “so freaking out” she couldn’t sleep.

In a Facebook post, where Cibuls shared an image of the spooky sighting, she wrote that she tried “creeping in[to her son’s room] with a flashlight” to check out what was staring back at her on the video monitor.

“I kept opening my eyes to check to make sure the ‘ghost’ wasn’t moving. Then when I would start to finally relax, my son would roll over and I’d be on high alert again.”

“I didn’t see anything unusual in the crib at all. I was trying to feel around to see if there was any wetness – we thought there might be some drool on the sheet – but I didn’t feel any,” she told Yahoo Lifestyle UK.

“I told myself maybe it was just a stain on the sheet and left the room. I probably went in there about three more times throughout the night,” she added.

Once morning came, Cibuls went into the room to get to the bottom of the creepy apparition.

Once morning came, Cibuls went into the room to get to the bottom of the creepy apparition.

“It turns out my husband just forgot to put the mattress protector on when he changed the sheets,” she wrote on Facebook, revealing a large picture of a baby’s face on a price tag attached to the mattress. The face – which is what Cibuls saw on the camera – is usually covered by the mattress protector, which goes under the sheet.
