Man shocked to see baseball mascot, not bride, during first look prank

That’s not the bride!

One emotional groom was in for quite the surprise when he saw Phillie Phanatic, the furry green mascot of the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team, during his first look with his bride on their wedding day.

On Oct. 7, florist Jena Paige shared the hilarious 40-second clip featuring two of her clients to Facebook, where it has since gone viral with over 5,000 views. In the must-see footage, the unnamed groom, wearing a blindfold, wipes away tears as he prepares to see his wife-to-be on their big day.

BRIDE AND GROOM REQUEST WEDDING CAKE MODELED TO LOOK LIKE LIFE-SIZE DEER

Little did the man realize, but standing before him was not his partner, but instead, the larger-than-life Phillie Phanatic mascot, who appropriately accessorized for the occasion with a veil.

Following instructions from someone in the background, the groom removed the blindfold and was stunned to see the beast – not his bride.

“No way!” the man exclaimed. “Dude, what’s up? My man! How are you, buddy? What are you doing here?” he laughed, as bridesmaids giggled in the background.

Moments later, the groom turned around for the real first look, tearing up again as he saw the beaming bride before they embraced.

After the prank was over, the couple reportedly went on to say “I do” without a hitch, and are currently honeymooning in Paris, Paige told ABC News.

It remains unclear at this time whether or not the fuzzy baseball mascot joined them for the romantic getaway.

Tourist fined for wearing ‘erotic and lewd’ string bikini to beach

A Taiwanese tourist visiting a beach in the Philippines was fined 2,500 PHP ($49 USD) for wearing a microscopic string bikini.

The woman wearing the white thong bikini was cited after police received complaints from other Boracay Island beachgoers about the “erotic and lewd” display, officials shared.

The woman was traveling to Boracay with her boyfriend on Wednesday afternoon. When the pair left the hotel where they were staying, the woman was reportedly informed that her attire was inappropriate. However, she dismissed the concerns.

“They were told not to by the hotel management, but they said it was a form of art,” said BIAMRG chief Natividad Bernardino via a government press release.

The woman then wore the swimsuit again on Thursday morning to the beach. She was apprehended later Thursday afternoon.

Officials have stated the world-famous beach does not have a dress code, but stated tourists are expected to follow and respect the country’s customs.

“We have our own cultural values as Filipinos and Asians. They should be able to respect that,” Bernardino said in a phone interview.

“Maybe it is just common sense,” she added.

Malay police chief, Maj. Jess Baylon, said the tourist’s boyfriend claimed the “string bikini is normal” in Taiwan and that it was a way for his girlfriend to “express herself with confidence.”

The Taiwanese couple is scheduled to leave the island Friday afternoon.

Earlier in the week, a water park in Australia faced backlash for banning skimpy bikini bottoms. Adventure World issued a photo informing guests that thong bikinis and anything “too cheeky” would not be allowed at the park. The announcement was met with accusations of sexism and discrimination.

However, there were some who felt the “family-friendly” park was in the right to implement rules that promoted “modesty and appropriateness.”

High school declines free Chick-fil-A lunch, alleges company has anti-LGBTQ ‘views’

The principal of a New Orleans high school said his staffers have no desire to “eat mor chikin,” as the administrator turned down a free lunch for teachers catered by Chick-fil-A over what he alleges are the company’s “views” toward the LGBTQ community.

On Oct. 10, Steven Corbett, principal of Lusher High School, said that he had recently declined a free lunch from the chicken-centric chain for his employees, provided through the College Football Playoff Foundation (CFPF), explaining that the restaurant’s values do not align with those of the school.

“Out of respect to our LGBTQ staff, we have chosen to not serve Chick-fil-A at an employee lunch. The #1 rule at Lusher is to ‘Be Kind’ and we live this motto every day,” Corbett told WWL-TV. “Chick-fil-A has been politically outspoken about its views, and we feel it is not part of Lusher’s culture of kindness and community.”

CHICK-FIL-A IS ONCE AGAIN TEENAGERS’ FAVORITE RESTAURANT CHAIN, ACCORDING TO NEW SURVEY

“Anytime an organization is anti-LGBTQ, and has efforts to infringe upon their rights, we thought it was important to support and stand up for their community at this time,” the principal told WDSU, doubling down on his argument.

The catered lunch was reportedly scheduled to take place on Friday, according to WWL-TV.

In response, a spokesperson for the CFPF said that the organization understood, and that teachers at the charter school would receive a meal from another restaurant.

“[We are just] glad teachers will have a good lunch tomorrow,” spokesperson Tony Fay said.

A spokesperson for Chick-fil-A offered Fox News the following statement on the matter:

“We are a restaurant company focused on food and hospitality and have no political or social agenda. Our priority is on providing a welcoming and respectful environment for our guests and Team Members,” the rep said.

Founded in 1967, the biblical basis of Chick-fil-A’s management strategy have been routinely criticized as controversial. And while company chairman and CEO Dan Cathy has voiced his opposition to same-sex marriage, Chick-fil-A has long argued the company has no political or social agenda.

California driver tells police the dog ate his ticket

Remember the old saying that everything you need to know you learned in kindergarten?

(Santa Barbara CHP)

A young driver showed up at the California Highway Patrol’s Santa Barbara station this week with a torn-up ticket that he said his dog partially ate.

Police said it was the first time it had ever happened, and that the driver brought it in because the unspecified violation required a sign-off.

2-bedroom Georgia home for sale for $1 by motivated Ohio seller

Talk about a steal.

A 1,050-square-foot home in Hawkinsville, Ga. – owned by Butler County in Ohio – has taken an extreme cut from $8,000 to the low, low price of $1.

‘PROPERTY BROTHERS’ WANT TO RENOVATE ‘THE GOLDEN GIRLS’ HOUSE

The dilapidated two-bedroom, one-bath house at 235 Dooley St., which is currently valued at $15,320 for its property, has been listed since 2015 with no interested buyers, prompting the owners to make the desperate move.

The string of events that led Butler County to own a home more than 600 miles away in Hawkinsville started when an elderly woman moved to Ohio to be with her daughters. Three years later, the woman was admitted to a county-run care facility, Journal-News reported. However, once she was admitted, the woman was denied Medicaid because she still owned the Georgia home. Under Ohio law, nursing homes are supposed to take over people’s property when they enter.

According to the Journal-News the woman’s nursing home bill ballooned to $50,000, prompting Butler County’s care facility director Chick Demidovich to purchase the home for $18,000 – and becoming an issue for the county since.

“The thing is the law says I’m supposed to collect these people’s property. I really don’t want to do that, and this is an exact example why. If I get somebody’s house that nobody wants, I might as well become a land bank,” Demidovish told the Journal-News about the unique situation.

The county tried to unload the falling-apart home for years – including trying to sell it to Hawkinsville, which reportedly declined, soliciting bids and allowing the home to go through foreclosure and put it up for auction – but no one bit.

Now in a hail-Mary attempt, the county is listing the home and land for $1.

“I just have a wild idea, what if we put a quarter-page ad in the newspaper and it just said something like property for sale, $1,” Commissioner Cindy Carpenter said to the Journal-News, hoping listing for $1 will “change the dynamic.”

The home is currently still for sale.

Ford dealer pulls social media ads for gun giveaway after news reports

After gaining national attention for an incentive program offering a Bible, gun store voucher and an American flag with every new car purchase, a South Carolina Ford dealer has pulled any mention of the deal from its social media platforms — but it’s still going on.

(Carolina Ford)

Carolina Ford’s “God, Guns and America” promotion has been a big hit for the Honea Path outlet, with some shoppers even coming in from out of state to take advantage of it, General Manager Derrick Hughes told WLTX. The gun store voucher is worth $400, which is enough to buy an AR-15 rifle at a nearby gun store after required background checks, but can be used for any product.

“We sat down here, me and my whole team, and we looked at different aspects of how to do this. Everybody at this dealership is proud of our country and almost everybody likes to hunt, and so we tried to do something a little bit different,” Hughes told The Index-Journal.

(Google Street View)

The deal is similar to a “God, Guns and Freedom” promotion offered by Chatom Ford in Alabama in July. It initially included a Bible, flag and shotgun with any new or used car purchase, but the gun was later changed to a $200 gift certificate after the regional Ford office said the program was insensitive in the wake of a deadly shooting at Ford dealer in California.

Prior to the news coverage, Carolina Ford’s Facebook page featured the ad, links to some of the articles about it and posts with photos of some happy customers holding up their guns, many of which were commented on by people criticizing the program.

But they were all gone by Wednesday afternoon, and Hughes told Fox News Autos that he was updating the ad and would be putting the new one up by the end of the day. It never appeared, and he did not respond to requests for additional comment, but a customer service representative confirmed on Thursday via a Facebook message that the promotion is continuing.

The deal is scheduled to run through November. Ford has not responded to a request for comment from Fox News Autos.

First Toyota Rav4 plug-in hybrid coming to L.A. Auto Show

Toyota is giving the Rav4 some juice… in more ways than one.

(Toyota)

The automaker has announced plans to reveal the first plug-in hybrid version of the best-selling vehicle in the USA that’s not a pickup at the L.A. Auto Show in November.

Along with providing an unspecified all-electric driving range, Toyota said the plug-in will be the most powerful version of the Rav4. That title currently belongs to the standard all-wheel-drive Rav4 hybrid, which has 219 hp and a combined fuel economy rating of 40 mpg.

TESTED: 2019 TOYOTA RAV4 HYBRID

The only plug-in model Toyota sells today is the Prius Prime, which provides 25 miles of all-electric driving and 54 mpg combined when running in conventional hybrid mode. That’s 2 mpg better than the standard Prius.

Ford is also introducing a plug-in version of its Rav4 competitor, the Escape, next spring. Pricing has not been announced, but Ford said the 209 hp compact SUV will only be available in front-wheel-drive and deliver over 30 miles of all-electric range.

Toyota has sold 324,622 Rav4s in the U.S. so far this year.

Father sues Tesla after teen son killed in flaming crash

The father of an 18-year-old Florida teen killed when his speeding Tesla slammed into a wall and caught fire is suing the company, saying the crash should have been “entirely survivable.”

(NTSB)

Police say Barrett Riley and his 18-year-old friend Edgar Monserrat died when Riley lost control of his father’s car at 116 mph in May 2018. Another friend was thrown from the car and survived.

The South Florida SunSentinel reports that James B. Riley sued Wednesday in Santa Clara County, California, where Tesla is based. Monserrat’s parents filed a similar lawsuit in January. Both blame the car’s lithium-ion battery pack, which exploded when the Tesla hit a concrete wall.

A Tesla statement earlier this year said “no car could have withstood a high-speed crash of this kind.”

$3G ‘JESUS SHOES’ FILLED WITH HOLY WATER SELL OUT WITHIN MINUTES

Oskar Arngården, who goes by @CrossFitPriest on Instagram, became an overnight sensation on social media, offering a mix of pious, clerically collared selfies and CrossFit training videos showing off his chiseled muscles.

However, the 35-year-old recently posted a message admitting that his newfound fame is making him feel a little too objectified, especially since he’s been receiving disrespectful and “sexual” comments.

“I have noticed in myself that I am not at all comfortable with the attention that has been pointed to me as a person,” he wrote. “I started this account to get to talk about whats really important in my life; God!… and also, hopefully maybe inspire to a healthy lifestyle.”

He has since turned the commenting feature off on his Instagram account, which has 148,000 followers.

Interest in Arngården comes at a time when TV is all but consumed with hot priest characters. Amazon’s “Fleabag,” CBS’ new series “Evil” and Showtime’s “City on a Hill” all feature canoodle-worthy clergymen.

Oh wait, it’s just cake. It’s just cake, everybody! Everybody calm down!

BRIDE AND GROOM SLAMMED FOR WEDDING CAKE ICING FAIL: ‘THIS IS A DISASTER’

A bakery in East Earl, Pa., recently crafted a life-size, deer-shaped wedding cake for a couple who married last Saturday.

Cake Decorating Supervisor Pam McNeal at Shady Maple market made the giant confection, which took approximately 10 hours to create, after a bride and groom came in with a pair of plastic antlers and asked the bakers to design a wedding cake “to fit the antlers,” the bakery told Fox News.

Though the head and neck are carved from Styrofoam, the entire back part of the deer is made from cake – enough to feed 250 people.

The bride and groom were not identified and they apparently did not explain why they wanted a deer cake.

The cake of a lifetime definitely seemed to please those on social media, with many commenting on the “fantastic” work.

It’s also definitely near the top of the list when it comes to unique wedding cakes, like this couple’s Waffle House-themed dessert and this shop’s literal cheese cake.

Hopefully it managed to make it to the ceremony without any major falls, unlike the one at this couple’s reception.
