CNN, MSNBC avoid Clinton’s wild Gabbard conspiracy theory during primetime

Hillary Clinton raised eyebrows Friday when she shared a conspiracy theory without evidence that the Russians were “grooming” Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, into running as a third-party presidential candidate in 2020.

But Clinton’s remarks apparently weren’t significant enough for CNN and MSNBC to feature during primetime hours, known for maximized viewership.

There was no mention of Clinton’s controversial statements during CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360,” “Cuomo Prime Time,” and the entire first hour of “CNN Tonight with Don Lemon.”  There was an even lengthier blackout of the controversy on MSNBC as “The Beat with Ari Melber,” “All In with Chris Hayes,” “The Rachel Maddow Show,” “Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell,” and “The 11th Hour with Brian Williams” made no mention of the clash between the 2016 and the 2020 presidential candidates.

GABBARD DARES CLINTON TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT IN 2020, FIGHTS BACK AGAINST ASSERTIONS THAT SHE IS A RUSSIAN ASSET

However, within the last 15 minutes of his second hour, Lemon suggested that Clinton was “playing 3-D chess” by challenging Gabbard not to run as a third-party candidate despite the fact the congresswoman had already said she wouldn’t.

CNN did address the controversy on four separate programs throughout the day while MSNBC covered it only on “Meet The Press: Daily.”

Meanwhile, Fox News Channel covered the Democratic feud throughout the day and during primetime, including on “Your World with Neil Cavuto,” “The Five,” “Special Report w/ Bret Baier,” “The Story with Martha MacCallum,” “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” “Hannity,” “The Ingraham Angle,” and “Fox News @ Night with Shannon Bream.”

Clinton targeted Gabbard during a podcast interview, suggesting she was “the favorite of the Russians.”

“I’m not making any predictions, but I think they’ve got their eye on somebody who is currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate,” Clinton said, in an apparent reference to Gabbard. “She’s the favorite of the Russians. They have a bunch of sites and bots and other ways of supporting her so far.”

She then accused former Green Party candidate Dr. Jill Stein, who ran against her and Donald Trump in 2016, of also being an asset of Russia: “That’s assuming Jill Stein will give it up, which she might not because she’s also a Russian asset. I mean — totally.”

Both offered fiery responses on social media.

“Great! Thank you @HillaryClinton. You, the queen of warmongers, embodiment of corruption, and personification of the rot that has sickened the Democratic Party for so long, have finally come out from behind the curtain,” Gabbard wrote in a scathing three-part tweet on Friday afternoon. “From the day I announced my candidacy, there has been a concerted campaign to destroy my reputation.”

She continued, “We wondered who was behind it and why. Now we know — it was always you, through your proxies and powerful allies in the corporate media and war machine, afraid of the threat I pose. It’s now clear that this primary is between you and me. Don’t cowardly hide behind your proxies. Join the race directly.”

Stein also offered a challenge to Clinton, but to a debate since she was “denied by the phony DNC/RNC-controlled Commission on Presidential Debates” during the 2016 election.

Joshua Rogers: I thought I wanted to marry her, then she did something my mom had never done

I grew up in the Deep South and in my family, there was an expectation that women should always be “ladylike.” That meant, in part, that a woman should never burp in front of others (seriously, I’ve never heard my mom do it).

Another thing about the South is that the secret ingredient to 93 percent of entrees is grease, so if you’re someone who avoids fried foods, that requires building up a certain intestinal fortitude to digest the lard that permeates the Southern diet.

I didn’t really appreciate this reality until I took my then-fiancée, Raquel, to my family reunion in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

JOSHUA ROGERS: MY WIFE AND I MADE A BIG MISTAKE — AND LEARNED A PRICELESS LESSON FROM IT

In a grand finale to our family festivities, we met at a catfish restaurant where a spread of Southern comfort food simmered under the hot lamps. There were the sprawling sides of creamed corn, green beans, and candied yams, but it was the catfish we really came for.

Unfortunately, Raquel wasn’t as enthusiastic as the rest of us about eating what appeared to be refried batter, but she figured, “When in Arkansas, do as the Arkansans do.” She came to bitterly regret that decision.

As Raquel and I drove away from the catfish restaurant and headed to the Memphis airport, all of a sudden, I heard a loud gurgling sound come from her stomach.

“I don’t feel well,” Raquel said. “I think it was the catfish.”

Raquel’s stomach started gurgling again, except it only got louder and more unladylike by the minute. This made me uneasy. I wanted her to channel her inner Scarlett O’Hara and suppress the sounds of indigestion churning around inside. The catfish would not allow it.

Suddenly, there erupted from the passenger’s seat a growling belch that sounded like a monster catfish that was about to eat the dashboard. It was the belch that took our relationship to a whole new level.

Suddenly, there erupted from the passenger’s seat a growling belch that sounded like a monster catfish that was about to eat the dashboard. It was the belch that took our relationship to a whole new level. Things got a little more real.

In the coming months and years after we married, our relationship grew in transparency — sometimes it was welcome, oftentimes it wasn’t. In particular, I didn’t appreciate the way marriage revealed my once-hidden character flaws (at least I thought they were hidden).

While Raquel was affectionate and loving toward me, she wasn’t afraid to make me face the fact that, for example, I could be lazy, boastful and inconsiderate. I didn’t want to deal with those weaknesses, but there was nowhere to run. I was emotionally belching my way through life and assuming no one could hear me.

I wasn’t the only one who had some growing to do. Raquel, who wrote the last chapter of my new book, “Confessions of a Happily Married Man,” shares some of her own weaknesses and offers this insight:

“Whether my issues are related to my husband or not, I cannot hide from them. I can try. But I’ve discovered that hiding anything becomes exhausting over time and drives a wedge into our relationship. Outside of my home, I can pretend that I’m all put together. But Joshua knows the real me.”

And to that, I would add, I love the real Raquel more and more every day.

In my single years, I thought a married couple’s positive, affectionate feelings were what made a marriage successful. That is, being “in love” was the goal.

Now I realize that the first goal of marriage isn’t being in love, it’s being known. And in the passage of time (and gas, perhaps), we discover the incomparable joy of being loved for who we really are.

Former HGTV host found guilty of molesting daughter’s 10-year-old best friend: report

Christopher Dionne, a former host of an HGTV remodeling pilot, has been found guilty of molesting a 10-year-old girl in his Connecticut home, according to a report.

A New London Superior Court official told People magazine that Dionne, 37, was convicted of risk of injury to a minor and fourth-degree sexual assault on Wednesday.

Per the outlet, he was expected to be released on a $100,000 bond and be sentenced Dec. 11.

    R. KELLY’S FEDERAL TRIAL IN CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CASE IN CHICAGO SET FOR APRIL

In a statement to Fox News on Friday, HGTV said: “The individual you reference appeared in a pilot that premiered on our network in 2015. The pilot was not picked up for series.”

Per People, Dionne’s show, titled “Family Flip,” ran for one episode in 2015.

According to People, Dionne’s victim — who is now 12 — testified during the trial that she was best friends with Dionne’s daughter at the time of the assault. Per the outlet, “she and Dionne’s daughter were on the same soccer team and had regular sleepovers at each other’s houses.”

Per People — citing the arrest warrant application — Dionne’s victim claimed that in November 2017, she was at a birthday sleepover at his home when he inappropriately touched her — waking her up in the early hours of the morning by placing his hand against her buttocks inside her pajamas.

She said he also later reached his hand under her bra, jiggled her chest, and allegedly took a photo of her on his phone, the outlet reported.

Per People, Dionne’s victim said she was molested twice, several hours apart. Dionne’s two children — a 14-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter — were in the room sleeping while it happened, People reported.

According to the outlet, during the assault, Dionne asked the girl if she wanted to see his genitals, asking her, “Are you a big girl or a little girl?” and telling her, “If you tell your mom, I’ll go to jail and (my daughter) won’t have a daddy.”

She refused his advances and Dionne went back to his room, reported People. According to the outlet, this wasn’t the first time Dionne assaulted the child. People reports that a similar incident — Dionne asking the girl if she wanted to kiss his genitals — occurred in September.

A&E previously told NBC Connecticut that the network had suspended production on a new show they were working on with Dionne.

Susan Rice on being mistaken for Condoleezza Rice: ‘This s— happens to black folks’

Former U.S. national security adviser Susan Rice voiced her and her late mother’s frustration over people confusing her with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

While appearing on “Real Time with Bill Maher” the host asked Rice if it was true that some people confuse the political figures.

“It happens, “Rice said. “It used to p— my mother off more than anything else. My late mother, when she got asked, ‘Are you Condoleezza Rice’s mother?'”

But Susan Rice, a Democrat, also spoke of similarities between herself and Condoleezza Rice, a Republican, including the fact they both held the title of national security adviser to a U.S. president. (Susan Rice served under Barack Obama, while Condoleezza Rice served under George W. Bush.)

“And here we have ties to Stanford [University],” Susan Rice told Maher. “We were both national security adviser, we’re both black women named Rice. And so, you know, it happens to me in airports and happens to me all over the place where people say, ‘You work with President Bush, President Bush’s national security adviser and secretary of state.’  — No.”

Rice told Maher an embarrassing experience in China where her visit was featured on state-run television only for the broadcast to show a photo of Condoleezza Rice instead.

“The funniest time was when I was visiting China for the first time as national security adviser on my own mission on behalf of President Obama. And I met with President Xi and I’m setting up a summit and CCTV, there’s a whole big spread in the nightly news,” Rice said. “And they say, you know, Susan Rice is in China to see President Xi and they put up Condi’s picture.”

“This s— happens to black folks,” Rice sighed.

Trump and Susan Rice get in nasty Twitter fight after ex-Obama adviser’s Syria comments

If former national security adviser Susan Rice was wondering whether President Trump was watching her Friday night appearance on “Real Time with Bill Maher,” she soon got her answer.

In a late-night tweet, Trump called Rice “a disaster” after she criticized Trump’s Syria strategy on the HBO show.

But things didn’t stop there. Rice responded on Twitter just minutes later, accusing Trump of giving her a “totally gross” hug when they met at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2015.

“Susan Rice, who was a disaster to President Obama as National Security Advisor, is now telling us her opinion on what to do in Syria,” Trump tweeted Friday night. “Remember RED LINE IN THE SAND? That was Obama. Millions killed! No thanks Susan, you were a disaster.”

Trump’s “red line” reference was in regard to Obama’s warning to Syrian leader Bashar al Assad not to use chemical weapons against his own people, then Obama’s unwillingness to take action against Assad when the Syrian leader defied Obama’s warning.

RUSSIAN MILITARY PATROLLING SYRIA-TURKEY BORDER AS US TROOPS OFFICIALLY WITHDRAW

About 16 minutes later came Rice’s response:

“Then why did you come up and hug me at 2015 WHCD when I’d never met you (which was totally gross) and whisper in my ear that I had been ‘very unfairly treated’ over Benghazi and ‘was doing a great job for the country’?”

Earlier in the evening, Rice told Maher that Trump had given the leaders of Russia, Syria and Iran a “green light” to do as they please in northern Syria by planning to remove U.S. forces from the region — and warned of an emboldened ISIS.

“What Trump has done in Iraq and now Syria is in effect to cede a portion of northern Syria, Kurdish homeland, to the Turks and to evacuate the Americans as if it’s his Saigon,” Rice told Maher, referring to the U.S. pullout from Vietnam in the 1970s.

“We’ve left our Turkish allies homeless,” she continued. “They’re now going scattered throughout the region. We’ve given Assad and Putin and the Iranians a green light to take over that territory that they’ve been long wanting to take. And ISIS is going to come back.”

During his interview with Rice, Maher brought up the 2012 terror attack in Benghazi, Libya, suggesting to Rice that the situation with Turkey and the Syrian Kurds “must infuriate” her because Republicans don’t seem as upset over Syria as they were when an American ambassador and others were killed in Benghazi — a situation that many in the GOP have blamed on then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Rice who was promoting her book, “Tough Love,” called Benghazi a “horrible tragedy” before addressing the ramifications of Trump’s troop withdrawal.

“But what we’re going to lose as a result of what Donald Trump has done in Syria is, we’re going to have a whole terrorist resurgence as a result of his pullout,” Rice said. “So we’ll see the ramifications of that in [the loss of] American and Allied lives, I think I’m afraid, for years to come.”

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

The former Obama administration official also told Maher that Russian President Vladimir Putin was benefiting from America’s political infighting, adding that in her view the “domestic political divisions” in the U.S. were “our greatest national security vulnerability.”

“What is I think happening now — and what Putin’s genius is — is that he understands that we are so divided internally and that … we can’t get stuff done,” Rice said. “All Putin had to do was jump in and exacerbate those divisions, pour salt in the wounds.”

Rice compared the divisiveness in the U.S. to a “flesh-eating disease” before adding, “I think we have the ability to fix it. It’s a problem of our own making, our domestic divisions, where we have to stop hating each other.”

Hillary Clinton backs out of DC event also set to include Tulsi Gabbard, Kirstjen Nielsen: report

The Hawaii congresswoman and combat veteran fired back in a scathing series of tweets later Thursday, challenging Clinton not to “hide behind your proxies” and join the presidential race “directly.”

Nielsen, who resigned in April, oversaw the Trump administration’s controversial “zero tolerance” immigration policy, which resulted in the separation of thousands of migrant children from their families at the border. The policy was later rescinded.

More than 51,000 people signed a petition asking Fortune to pull Nielsen from the summit’s roster, Slate also reported. About 100 speakers were still scheduled to attend the summit as of Friday evening.

Gabbard and lawyer Anita Hill are among the more high-profile scheduled speakers, on a list that also includes business executives, journalists, scholars and some elected officials. (Hill became a household name in 1991 when she accused Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas, who had been her supervisor at the U.S. Department of Education and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, of sexual harassment.)

In her remarks Thursday on “Campaign HQ,” a podcast hosted by former President Obama aide David Plouffe, Clinton did not mention Gabbard by name, though Plouffe ended the podcast by noting Clinton’s “belief that Tulsi Gabbard is going to be a third-party candidate propped up by Trump and the Russians.”

Clinton also singled out 2016 Democratic candidate Jill Stein, accusing her of being a Russian asset. The former first lady, whom Donald Trump defeated for the presidency in 2016, has recently been promoting a book co-authored with her daughter, Chelsea Clinton.

CLICK HERE FOR THE ALL-NEW FOXBUSINESS.COM

Gabbard has faced criticism from several other fellow Democrats, who have accused her of being a “puppet for the Russian government.” The former Army National Guard major, who served in Iraq, has repeatedly defended her antiwar, anti-interventionist beliefs, which have led to some comparisons between her and President Trump.

At Tuesday’s fourth Democratic debate in Ohio, Gabbard relentlessly slammed CNN, which was broadcasting the event live, and The New York Times, calling them “completely despicable” for news coverage that has raised questions about whether she is a “Russian asset and an Assad apologist,” a reference to the leader of Syria.

Wreck of Japanese aircraft carrier sunk in Battle of Midway discovered 77 years later

Researchers have discovered the wreck of the Japanese aircraft carrier Kaga 77 years after it was sunk by U.S. forces during World War II‘s Battle of Midway.

Experts aboard the research vessel RV Petrel announced the discovery Friday. After surveying more than 500 square nautical miles, crewmembers identified the wreckage Wednesday at a depth of more than 17,000 feet in the Pacific.

RV Petrel is part of Vulcan Inc., a research organization set up by the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.

“[The Battle of Midway] was a major carrier-to-carrier battle that left its eerie evidence strewn for thousands of miles across the ocean floor,” Robert Kraft, director of subsea operations for Vulcan, said in a statement. “With each piece of debris and each ship we discover and identify, our intent is to honor history and those who served and paid the ultimate sacrifice for their countries.”

The Kaga is one of four Japanese aircraft carriers that took part in the Battle of Midway, June 4-7, 1942. All four of the carriers, along with the Japanese heavy cruiser Mikuma, were sunk in the battle, marking a pivotal victory for the U.S. Navy.

After the devastating attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, Japan hoped to deal another major blow to the U.S. Pacific Fleet at Midway. However, U.S. codebreakers were able to get details of the Japanese plan, and the Navy prepared its own ambush.

“The Battle of Midway was an American intelligence breakthrough,” Frank Thompson, curator at the Naval History and Heritage Command, said in the statement. “The team that deciphered the Japanese fleet codes enabled Pacific Fleet commander Nimitz to understand Japanese intentions and plan accordingly. This was a true turning point in the war for the U.S. Navy.”

The Petrel crew hopes to find and survey all the wreckage from the entire battle, an effort that could add new details about Midway to history books.

RV Petrel is no stranger to shipwreck discoveries. Earlier this year, for example, experts from the research vessel discovered the wreck of World War II aircraft carrier USS Wasp in the Coral Sea more than 70 years after the ship was sunk during the Guadalcanal campaign.

Also in 2019, researchers aboard the RV Petrel discovered one of the first Japanese battleships to be sunk by U.S. forces during World War II. Imperial Japanese Navy ship Hiei sank on Nov. 14, 1942, in the Solomon Islands.

John Kasich calls for Trump’s impeachment, sending CNN into ‘breaking news’ frenzy

CNN sounded the “breaking news” alarm Friday after Republican John Kasich — a CNN contributor and frequent critic of President Trump — bucked the GOP and expressed his support for impeachment.

“And I say it with great sadness,” Kasich, a former governor of Ohio, explained after confirming his stand against the president.

CNN immediately treated Kasich’s remarks as a bombshell, posting a graphic on screen that read, “Just in: GOP’s Kasich: Trump deserves to be impeached.”

In addition, a report on CNN’s website, calling Kasich’s remarks “breaking news,” was placed prominently on the network’s homepage.

CNN’S APRIL RYAN BACKS OUT AS MODERATOR OF BUTTIGIEG EVENT AFTER BACKLASH

Kasich, who stepped down as governor of Ohio in January because of term limits, finished second behind Trump in the 2016 New Hampshire primary. But he dropped out of the race after being unable to win any subsequent primaries, except in his home state.

During the 2016 race, Kasich and Trump frequently locked horns — so much so that Kasich boycotted that year’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland, where Trump officially accepted the GOP nomination for president, even though the event was held in Kasich’s home state.

In defending his support for Trump’s impeachment Friday, Kasich said the preceding 24 hours had been “very difficult.” He cited a news conference at which acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney appeared to have contradicted Trump’s claim that there was “no quid pro quo” when Trump spoke with the president of Ukraine in July.

Mulvaney later walked back his comments, but Kasich claimed Mulvaney’s initial remarks had “pushed him really across the Rubicon.”

“Withholding military aid, vital military aid to a nation like Ukraine… so that a political operation can take place, investigate this thing around the server,” Kasich explained. “And ‘We’re going to withhold the aid until do you that.’ To me, it’s totally inappropriate. It’s an abuse of power.”

He added: “I’ve fought with people on the air about, ‘Is there a quid pro quo?’ and ‘Does this rise to the level of impeachment?”

“I now believe that it does,” Kasich concluded.

The ex-governor recently clashed with CNN anchor Don Lemon over whether the Trump-Ukraine phone call included a quid pro quo.

The clash got so heated, Lemon suggested that Kasich was sounding like a “Trump apologist.”

“You are doing exactly what the apologists are doing,” Lemon said. “Then you are not helping people understand the real problem, then you are part of the problem.”

Navy veteran’s family plans to sue VA over suspicious hospital death ruled a homicide

The family of an 87-year-old U.S. Navy veteran who died suddenly in June 2018 — reportedly due to a wrongfully administered insulin dose at a Veterans Affairs hospital in West Virginia — plans to sue the federal Department of Veterans Affairs over the death, which has been ruled a homicide.

The veteran, John Hallman, was administered a lethal dose of insulin “he did not need and for which no medical order was placed,” causing his blood sugar to spike, leading to his death, said attorney Tony O’Dell, who represents several of the 11 victims who died under suspicious circumstances at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg.

O’Dell said he has filed a notice of a pending lawsuit in connection with Hallman’s death, one of two of the 11 cases to be declared a homicide.

DAUGHTER OF VET WHO DIED IN VA HOSPITAL UNDER SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES SPEAKS OUT, ‘STILL WAITING’ FOR ANSWERS

All 11 veterans who died appeared to have received lethal doses of insulin despite not being treated for diabetes or high blood sugar, according to reports.

The deaths are being investigated by both the FBI and the Office of Inspector General for the Department of Veterans Affairs, but the victims’ families — as well as some elected officials — have complained the inspector general’s office has been too slow in conducting the probes.

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., has written to U.S. Attorney General William Barr, saying he has “grave concerns over the pace of the investigation,” the Associated Press reported.

The notice of a civil suit was filed earlier this week and was first reported by the Exponent Telegram of Clarksburg. The notice says Hallman’s death “is considered a homicide based upon the pattern of events leading to his death, although his body is not available for autopsy.”

Attorney O’Dell also represents the family of Felix McDermott, an 82-year-old Army veteran who died at the same medical center, under the same circumstances as Hallman. McDermott’s death was ruled a homicide after his body was exhumed and analyzed in connection with the investigation.

Authorities say they identified a person of interest in the cases last week but no arrests have been made. That person is a woman who worked the overnight shift as a nursing assistant and was fired last year, the Washington Post reported, adding it was not naming her because she has not been charged with any crime.

“I’ve been a supporter of his ever since, and he’s never given me reason to not continue that support,” Moore wrote at the time.

Sanders addressed his recent health problems during Tuesday night’s debate in Ohio.

“I’m healthy. I’m feeling great,” he told the audience. “We are going to be mounting a vigorous campaign all over this country. That is how I think I can reassure the American people.”

The rally will be held near the country’s largest public housing development and a power plant, the Huffington Post reported, and Sanders plans to speak about affordable housing and Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal.

The rally is meant as a reset after his heart attack and his lagging poll numbers behind surging progressive Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.
