Spicer: Hunter Biden ‘took the money’ and scrutiny of overseas dealings is fair game

Hunter Biden profited from his overseas business dealings and should be able to deal with the scrutiny, former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer asserted Tuesday.

Appearing on “Fox & Friends” with hosts Steve Doocy, Ainsley Earhardt, and Brian Kilmeade, Spicer said that Biden has to be able to answer questions about his dealings on the board of Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma Holdings because it’s only fair.

“Look, he made a decision to take the money: $50,000 a month. And now, there’s got to be questions as to what did they want for that money?” he said. “Clearly, it wasn’t subject matter expertise in that particular field because he had none.”

HUNTER MAY HAVE MADE ‘MILLIONS’ IN UKRAINE, NEWLY REVEALED DOCS SUGGEST

“And so, unfortunately, this is the time now when he has to answer the questions as to what they got out of that,” Spicer told the “Friends” hosts. “What conversations did he have or not have with his father, who was overseeing the policy in Ukraine?”

In an exclusive interview with ABC’s Amy Robach released this morning, Hunter Biden denied any wrongdoing during his time on the board but admitted that accepting the lucrative position was “poor judgment” on his part.

“I don’t regret being on the board,” he told Robach. “What I regret is not taking into account that there would be a Rudy Giuliani and a president of the United States that would be listening to this ridiculous conspiracy idea,” he said.

Robach asked Biden if he would have gotten the board seat if he had a different last name.

“I don’t know, probably not,” he responded, explaining he left the board in April when the five-year term ended.

The interview comes ahead of Joe Biden’s appearance at a Democratic debate Tuesday night in Ohio. More of Hunter’s financial past is also being subject to scrutiny. After all, the Trump family also has been under an intense microscope.

“I think we’ve seen the scrutiny with the Trump family and all of their business dealings,” said Spicer. “If it’s fair for the Trumps, it’s fair for the Bidens.”

“The Trumps were in business for a long time and they still have to go through scrutiny of all of their business dealings,” he added.

Spicer further explained: “There’s no expertise in the field. There’s nothing except for your last name. And, frankly, not just your last name, but your connection to the sitting vice president who is overseeing the policy in that country.”

United Airlines passenger allowed to fly in T-shirt alluding to lynching journalists: report

A United Airlines passenger was recently spotted wearing a T-shirt that alluded to the lynching of journalists, prompting outrage from another passenger — who reportedly works in journalism, and complained to the flight crew before takeoff.

The anonymous traveler who objected to the shirt said he felt it was wrong for one passenger to “be allowed to threaten other passengers” and that the airline should not “sanction the threatening of murder of any group.”

On Oct. 11, the unnamed man was spotted boarding a United flight from Los Angeles to Boston, wearing a black tee with the slogan “Rope. Tree. Journalist. Some Assembly Required,” on the back. A photo of the man was shared by Twitter user Jessica Sidman, in a post that has since gone viral with over 5,100 shares and 3,400 comments as of Tuesday.

Sidman, who works as a food editor at Washingtonian magazine, said it was her brother who saw the man in the offensive shirt. (According to Forbes, the woman’s brother also works in journalism, and asked for his name not to be published.) The incident is said to have occurred on United flight 824 on Oct. 11.

AUBREY O’DAY REVEALS THE SHIRT SHE WAS WEARING THAT NEARLY GOT HER KICKED OFF A FLIGHT

“He told the flight attendant and she asked what he wanted her to do,” Sidman continued in a thread. “He told her he didn’t want one passenger threatening to kill other passengers,” she claimed. “He told her @United should do the right thing. She went to talk to the captain.”

“Then security pulled my brother off the plane. He talked to a security official. The security guy said they couldn’t do anything just because it was offensive,” the woman alleged.

“My brother said it wasn’t offensive, it was THREATENING,” Sidman went on. “They offered to put my brother on another flight. They didn’t say anything to the guy with the shirt.”

Though a spokesperson for United was not immediately available to offer further comment on the story, a representative replied to Sidman on Twitter and asked for more information.

“We appreciate you reaching out to bring this to our attention, Jessica. We’d like to learn more about what occurred and make the appropriate teams aware,” an official said on Friday. “Please have your brother reach out to us directly when he has a moment.”

Though the outcome of that conversation has not been made public, Sidman’s brother confirmed to CNBC that a United employee offered to have him switched to a different flight, though he argued that his larger complaint — the man’s threatening shirt — was not addressed.

“I relayed that the shirt was not just offensive, it was threatening the lives of other passengers,” Sidman’s brother told the outlet.

Though the outcome of that conversation has not been made public, Sidman’s brother confirmed that a United employee offered to have him switched to a different flight, though he argued that the true, larger issue at hand was the man’s threatening shirt.

“I did not think one passenger should be allowed to threaten other passengers (be it on a shirt, on a sign or verbally) and that United should do the right thing,” he further said to Forbes. “I didn’t want this to be about United appeasing me, a single customer. I wanted the airline I flew not to sanction the threatening of murder of any group.”

Sidman’s brother added that the flight continued with “both passengers on board,” as per CNBC.

Rep. Jordan on Hunter Biden’s Ukraine dealings: ‘The American people knew right from the get-go this was wrong’

Hunter Biden’s overseas business dealings are something “the American people knew right from the get-go this was wrong,” Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said Tuesday on “Fox & Friends.”

Jordan’s remarks come as Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, was breaking his silence in his first nationally televised interview since his relationship with companies in Ukraine and China came under scrutiny.

In the interview, Biden maintained he did nothing improper while he served on the board of a Ukrainian gas company, but Jordan, the ranking Republican on the House Oversight Committee, disagreed.

“The American people knew right from the get-go this was wrong,” Jordan told “Fox & Friends.”

HUNTER BIDEN BREAKS SILENCE ON UKRAINE BUSINESS DEALINGS, CLAIMS HE DID ‘NOTHING WRONG AT ALL’

Jordan went on to say, “The American people understand fairness, they instinctively get this wasn’t fair, this wasn’t proper, this wasn’t right.”

Biden, 49, told ABC’s “Good Morning America” that accepting the lucrative position was, in retrospect, “poor judgment.”

“I know I did nothing wrong at all. Was it poor judgment to be in the middle of something that is a swamp in many ways? Yeah,” he said in an exclusive sitdown with ABC’s Amy Robach at his Los Angeles home.

“We just know this stuff smells,” Jordan said.

“I think the American people, again, they saw this for what it is. They know it smells. They know it’s wrong and that’s the fact.”

PROOF OF LINKS: PHOTOGRAPH SHOWS JOE, HUNTER BIDEN GOLFING WITH UKRAINE GAS EXEC

Biden said he did not discuss the Burisma Holdings board seat with his father, who is currently running for president, except for one “brief exchange” that was previously reported.

A photo obtained by Fox News last month showed Joe Biden and Hunter Biden golfing in the Hamptons with Devon Archer, who served on the board of the Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma Holdings with Hunter. Joe Biden had told Fox News that he never discussed his son’s foreign business dealings with him.

“I don’t regret being on the board. What I regret is not taking into account that there would be a Rudy Giuliani and a president of the United States that would be listening to this ridiculous conspiracy idea,” he said, claiming that the allegations of impropriety have been “debunked by everyone.”

On Sunday, Hunter Biden announced he will be stepping down from the board of a Chinese equity fund and that he would not work for any foreign-owned companies if his father becomes president.

The Catwoman role, previously played on the big screen by the likes of Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry and Anne Hathaway, is an antihero within the DC comics world, as well as an occasional love interest for Batman’s alter ego, Bruce Wayne.

A town in Sardinia ordered motorists and hikers to avoid Google Maps to navigate local roads after too many people got lost and stranded by using the popular app, according to a report.

GOOGLE MAPS CAN NOW TELL YOU HOW BAD YOUR COMMUTE WILL BE

“Too many sedans and small cars get stuck on impassable paths, sometimes even off-road vehicles too,” Baunei Mayor Salvatore Corrias told the Italian news agency ANSA.

Hit-and-run driver plows into group of kids in front of Massachusetts home, speeds away

Cops are looking for the person who was behind the wheel of a dark-colored Subaru Legacy that plowed into a group of kids riding bikes Stoneham, Mass., before speeding away.

The Stoneham Police Department said in a news release the incident happened Sunday shortly after 6:30 p.m., when the agency received “multiple 911 calls” about a hit-and-run crash involving several children who were struck by a vehicle

“I just looked over and I saw headlights coming right at me,” Julia Cabral, 13, told Boston 25 News. “I heard a car swerve. And it all happened in like an instant. And I ran away cause I didn’t know if the car was going to hit me again. And then I looked down and I had, like, blood coming from my foot.”

FORT WORTH POLICE OFFICER JAILED ON MURDER CHARGE AFTER RESIGNING IN SHOOTING THAT KILLED WOMAN IN HOME

Police said the four children, all of whom were between the ages of 12 and 13, were standing with their bikes in front of a home when the car suddenly turned into the driveway and struck them.

Surveillance video shows the moment the vehicle strikes the group, sending them flying into a nearby bush. The driver then reportedly beeped, hit another car in the driveway and fled — with one of the bicycles still lodged underneath the vehicle, according to police.

“I don’t know how you hit a parked car, two bicycles and four children and just drive away,” Jenn Cabral, Julia’s mother, told Boston 25.

All four of the children were treated on-scene by first responders, and two were later transported by ambulance from the scene to an area hospital with minor injuries.

“I just feel kind of in shock how someone would hit four teenaged kids and then just speed away and not even stop or ask if we’re ok,” Cabral told Boston 25.

Newt Gingrich: Joe Biden is in a ‘mess’ that won’t be easy to get out of

2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden still has to answer questions about his son’s overseas business dealings and has been left with a “mess,” said  Newt Gingrich on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday.

“You have a very unusual circumstance where Vice President Biden has said he didn’t know his son was on the board — was making money out of Ukraine,” he said. “His son has said in different interviews, ‘Oh, yeah, I told him that I was getting paid in Ukraine.’ Now, again, given Joe Biden’s memory, it’s possible he just didn’t remember it.

“But, if one of my children was making $600,000 a year, I’d probably notice it,” Gingrich continued.

The former House speaker also said there is suspicion surrounding Hunter Biden’s Chinese business dealings, specifically his connection to the Bank of China.

MOLLIE HEMINGWAY: JOE BIDEN’S BROTHER ALSO INVOLVED IN SCANDAL AND MEDIA IGNORES IT

Hunter Biden broke his silence Tuesday in his first televised interview since his overseas business dealings came under scrutiny, maintaining he did nothing improper while he served on the board of a Ukrainian gas company.

However, the 49-year-old son of former Vice President Joe Biden told ABC’s “Good Morning America” that accepting the lucrative position was, in retrospect, “poor judgment.”

“I would like to know what exactly is the status of the money that came out of the Chinese investments — and he can say he hasn’t drawn any yet, but what was the deal?” Gingrich asked.

More from Media

“Is it just sitting there? Did it never happen? Because there’s a great deal of smoke. I don’t know if there’s any fire. But there’s certainly a great deal of smoke around him having put together a joint venture involving… the Bank of China.”

He also accused the press of bending over backward to defend the Bidens to advance their political agenda.

“The news media, which always tried to protect Bill and Hillary Clinton, is trying to protect Joe Biden and trying to protect Hunter. You don’t exactly see the news media fall all over themselves to protect any Republican,” he said.

“I think to some extent, you now have Joe Biden in a mess that he probably can’t get out of very easily. And people just have to make up their mind — is he telling the truth?”

Nigerian police save dozens from Islamic school where they were ‘shackled with chains’

Police in Nigeria are trying to reunite dozens of men and boys with their families this week after rescuing them from an Islamic school where they had been “shackled with chains” and subjected to “various inhuman and degrading treatments,” according to reports.

The nearly 70 victims were freed from the facility in Katsina on Saturday as police arrested a 78-year-old man for running what they described as an “illegal detention/remand home,” according to Reuters.

“In the course of the investigation, sixty-seven persons from the ages of 7 to 40 years were found shackled with chains,” Sanusi Buba, a local police spokesperson, said in a statement. “Victims were also found to have been subjected to various inhuman and degrading treatments.”

A trader who lived near the property told Reuters that families sent their men and boys there under the belief it was an Islamic school that would help them correct their behavioral problems.

But one captive said he instead witnessed sexual assaults, beatings and deaths inside its grounds during his two-year stay there.

Steelers fans pack Chargers home stadium as players express disappointment with music choice

Since the Chargers moved from San Diego to Los Angeles, fans at Dignity Health Sports Park have mostly been supporting the away team or have been non-existent.

The Chargers took on the Pittsburgh Steelers in a Sunday night primetime matchup and the team was greeted by mostly fans east of the Mississippi River. When the Steelers’ anthem – “Renegade” by the Styx – blared in the stadium’s speakers, Los Angeles was not happy.

TENNESSEE TITANS’ DELANIE WALKER JABS TEAM’S TWITTER ACCOUNT FOR TWEET OVER QUARTERBACK DILEMMA

“It was crazy,” Chargers star running back Melvin Gordon told the Los Angeles Times. “They started playing their theme music. I don’t know what we were doing — that little soundtrack, what they do on their home games. I don’t know why we played that.”

He added: “I don’t know what that was. Don’t do that at our own stadium … It already felt like it was their stadium … I don’t understand that.”

Chargers offensive lineman Forrest Lamp also didn’t appreciate the music.

DETROIT LIONS PLAYERS, HALL OF FAMER CRITICIZE OFFICIATING AFTER CLOSE LOSS TO GREEN BAY PACKERS

“We’re used to not having any fans here,” he told the L.A. Times. “It does suck, though, when they’re playing their music in the fourth quarter. We’re the ones at home. I don’t know who’s in charge of that but they probably should be fired.”

Apparently, playing “Renegade” at their home field in front of thousands of Steelers fans was the Chargers’ way of trying to “Rick Roll” the fans. The team cut off “Renegade” and played Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.”

But because “Renegade” was played while the Chargers were still down by a few scores, 24-10, it didn’t help boost morale.

Detroit Lions players, Hall of Famer criticize officiating after close loss to Green Bay Packers

Criticism of NFL referees overshadowed Monday night’s game between the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions as players and even one Hall of Famer chimed in on the officiating.

Lions defensive back Tracy Walker was flagged for unnecessary roughness on a play in which he collided with Packers wide receiver Geronimo Allison. Walker said after the game he was just trying to go for the ball and described the call as  “awful” – a word he would use multiple times to describe the officiating.

“Awful. It was an awful call,” he said, according to ESPN. “I felt like I went for the ball and [it] just so happened we collided, but I was looking for the ball. It was an awful call by them. It is what it is, though.”

Referee Clete Blakeman explained in the pool report that regardless of intent Walker’s helmet-to-helmet contact will always draw a penalty.

Walker, a second-year safety, expressed his frustrations to reporters with the referees after the Lions’ 23-22 loss to the Packers.

“Extremely pissed off right now,” Walker said. “It is what it is. Disappointed. Hurt. We had that game. I’m going to say the same s—t. We should have won it. It is what it is, though. Got to bounce back.”

He added that even though there were some “awful calls” he knows the team had to play through it.

Walker was asked if he cared whether he gets fined for his comments, he said he didn’t.

“Detroit vs. Everybody,” Walker said, according to the Detroit Free Press. “I’m saying it. Detroit vs. Everybody. It’s awful.”

Detroit defensive end Trey Flowers also had trouble with the officiating as he was flagged twice for illegal use of hands. According to ESPN, he explained exactly what he was doing.

“I actually changed the position of my hand, because it was to the chest initially,” Flowers said. “Which is right here. I was doing it all game. I didn’t know that was a flag to the chest, so I could change it to [motioning somewhere else on his chest]. They called it again.”

Walker and Flowers’ frustrations were echoed by Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders.

“That is sickening…  the @NFL needs to look at a way to prevent that from happening.  Two phantom hands to the face calls really hurts us tonight. Yes, we could have scored TDs, but @Lions played too well to have the game end this way,” Sanders wrote in a tweet.

Detroit was called for eight penalties for 50 yards. The Packers were also flagged six times for 48 yards.

“We all know we can’t have those penalties, whatever it was that caused those to take place,” Lions coach Matt Patricia said, according to the Detroit Free Press. “We’ll go back and take a look at it and make sure we’re coaching it better, make sure we’re doing the right things. Just can’t have them. We know how dangerous Aaron Rodgers is and how detrimental those penalties are.”
