3 Missouri children missing since 2017 found in Texas, reports say

Three missing children from Missouri have been found in Texas with their mother, two years after they were allegedly abducted.

U.S. Marshals on Thursday located Shawn Rodriguez, now 42, at a home in Arlington with her three children, Daniel, David and Ariana Olivera after a lengthy investigation, according to reports.

The children were all under the age of 8 when they and Rodriguez left Saline County, Mo., in August 2017 and disappeared, KCTV News reported. Rodriguez was reportedly headed for California at the time.

Rodriguez allegedly abducted her three children from Saline County, Mo., in 2017. Ariana was a year old the time, while her brothers, Daniel and David, were ages 7 and 5, respectively.

Earlier this year, the children’s father was granted full custody, and local authorities officially listed the children as missing in July, the station reported. In August, a warrant for Rodriguez’s arrest for parental kidnapping was issued in Saline County.

That same month, local authorities, along with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the United States Marshals Service in the Western District of Missouri, launched an investigation into where the children were, KSHB-TV reported.

Investigators said they were able to narrow down their search for the missing siblings by October, believing Rodriguez was hiding out in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas.

U.S. Marshals from the Northern District of Texas and local authorities took Rodriguez into custody on the arrest warrant Thursday. She was awaiting extradition to Missouri.

Details on how authorities located Rodriguez weren’t immediately available.

The children were placed under the care of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services until they can be reunited with their father.

‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’ narrowly beats ‘Joker’ to top weekend box office

The Walt Disney Co.‘s “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” knocked “Joker” out of the No. 1 spot at the box office, but just barely.

Studios on Sunday say the film starring Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning grossed an estimated $36 million in North America and $117 million internationally in its first weekend in theaters.

The first film had a much stronger domestic showing, opening to nearly $70 million domestically in 2014, and the sequel was expected to earn more stateside.

‘JOKER’ SETS NEW BOX OFFICE RECORD

Although “It’s not as strong as we hoped domestically, but it’s a good start for October and we have a great window leading into Halloween,” said Cathleen Taff, Disney’s president of theatrical distribution. “Most encouraging is the fact that audiences seem to be responding very positively.”

The A CinemaScore — in contrast to the mixed critical reviews — suggests that the film could have a longer life at the box office.

Although it fell to second place after two weekends at the top, Warner Bros.’ “Joker” continues to hold strong at the box office. It added $29.2 million in its third weekend in North America. The villain origin story has grossed over $247 million domestically. Worldwide, it’s earned $737.5 million, and has already surpassed the lifetime grosses of “Justice League” and “Suicide Squad.”

‘ABOMINABLE’ TRAMPLES BOX OFFICE COMPETITION

Now the big question is whether the R-rated film will make it to $1 billion, but with a $55 million production budget, it’s already a massive hit for the studio and will likely also become director Todd Phillips’ highest-grossing film too.

“It’s already in territory that nobody thought it would get to. It’s achieved a box office that is above the wildest expectations of the studio and analysts,” said Paul Dergarabedian, Comscore’s senior media analyst. “Even if the box office stopped right now it’s an absolute, unqualified success.”

Third place went to another new sequel, Columbia Pictures’ “Zombieland: Double Tap” with $26.7 million. The R-rated comedy comes 10 years after the original, reuniting Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Woody Harrelson with director Ruben Fleischer.

‘DOWNTON ABBEY’ MOVIE TOPS ‘RAMBO: LAST BLOOD’ IN SURPRISING BOX OFFICE UPSET

“Three films earning over $25 million, that doesn’t happen very often,” Dergarabedian noted, although the weekend is down from last year when “Halloween” opened to over $76 million.

In notable landmarks, “Hustlers” crossed $100 million domestically this weekend. It’s the second STX film to do so this year after “The Upside.”

And buzzy, awards-friendly indies are continuing to thrive. “Parasite,” which opened last weekend, added $1.2 million. This weekend, Taika Waititi’s Nazi satire “Jojo Rabbit” opened in five theaters with a strong $350,000, the black and white Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe mindbender “The Lighthouse” earned $419,764 from eight theaters, and “Jay & Silent Bob Reboot” grossed $93,520 from one screen this weekend.

‘HUSTLERS’ STAR JENNIFER LOPEZ’S STRIPPER MOVES CAN’T BEAT ‘IT’ AT BOX OFFICE

But the year is still down 5 percent from last year.”It was a great weekend for sequels and great weekend for indie movies,” Dergarabedian said. “But we’re still struggling to get ahead of last year. We’re racing to the finish line here. We’ve only got 11 weekends left to go.”

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore. Where available, the latest international numbers for Friday through Sunday are also included. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.

Canada’s Conservatives offer bland option to Trudeau’s flash in Monday’s national elections

TORONTO – Even members of his own party say Canada’s Conservative leader is bland.

They tout it as a virtue, the antidote to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s flash and star power, and they’re counting on this very quality to help Andrew Scheer defeat Trudeau’s Liberal Party in national elections Monday.

“Andrew is what I call a severely normal Canadian,” said Jason Kenney, Alberta’s conservative premier and the godfather of one of Scheer’s five kids. “His personality is the opposite of Justin’s. Andrew is not at home naturally preening for the cameras.”

In the words of Canada’s former Conservative foreign minister, John Baird: “He’s not the sizzle, he’s the steak.”

Polls show Scheer has a chance to defeat the Liberals after a combination of scandals and high expectations damaged Trudeau’s prospects.

“His entire career he’s been underestimated, and I would never underestimate Andrew Scheer,” Baird said.

Trudeau faces an uphill electoral battle after old photos of him in blackface and brownface surfaced last month, casting doubt on his judgment. The handsome son of liberal icon and late Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau also was hurt by a scandal that erupted earlier this year, when his former attorney general said he pressured her to halt the prosecution of a Quebec company. Trudeau has said he was standing up for jobs, but enough damage was done to give the Conservatives an opening.

Scheer also has had a bumpy ride. He has been criticized for embellishing his resume by saying he had worked as an insurance broker when, in fact, he was never licensed. He also has taken heat for holding dual U.S.-Canadian citizenship — something he and his party had blasted other Canadian political figures for and never mentioned until the Globe and Mail newspaper revealed it earlier this month.

OBAMA ENDORSES JUSTIN TRUDEAU FOR REELECTION IN CANADA

Scheer said he began the process of renouncing his American citizenship in August, just before the election campaign started, but it could take 10 months.

Still, the young Conservative leader is well-positioned to become prime minister. No party is likely to get a majority of Parliament’s 338 seats, so a shaky alliance may be needed to pass legislation. If Conservatives win the most seats — but not a majority — they will probably try to form a government with the separatist Bloc Quebecois party. Trudeau’s Liberals would likely rely on the leftist New Democrats to stay in power.

Trudeau reasserted the country’s liberal identity in 2015 after almost 10 years of Conservative rule. Scheer ran for the leadership of the Conservative party two years ago after more obvious candidates figured Trudeau could not be beaten in this election — that a second mandate was all but a forgone conclusion for the charismatic young prime minister.

Now that his prospects have changed, the 40-year-old Scheer could become the second youngest prime minister in Canada’s history. The first, Conservative Joe Clark, was sworn in the day before his 40th birthday after he beat Justin’s father Pierre. However, Clark’s minority government lasted only six months and was defeated by Pierre Trudeau.

Scheer is hoping to convince voters to side with him by promising to scrap Trudeau’s national carbon tax and cut government spending, including foreign aid, by 25 percent.

“The country will be in perfectly safe, if bland, hands. That might not be a bad thing in a world gone insane,” said Andrew MacDougall, a former spokesman under Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

CANADA’S JUSTIN TRUDEAU WEARS BULLETPROOF VEST AFTER SECURITY THREAT: REPORTS

Born in Ottawa, Scheer is a social conservative and son of a Catholic deacon and former newspaper librarian who moved to Canada from the U.S. and married Scheer’s late mother, who was a nurse and an anti-abortion activist. Andrew’s two sisters live in the U.S. and are registered Republicans.

During their first debate, Trudeau grilled Scheer about his stance on abortion and the Conservative was widely panned after he refused to answer. The next day he acknowledged he was personally against abortion but said his party would not reopen the debate.

In 2005, he gave a speech in Parliament attacking same-sex marriage. He now says he’ll protect the rights of the LGBT community if elected.

Scheer has spent most of his adult life in politics. At age 32 he became the youngest speaker of the House of Commons, a non-partisan role overseeing debate in Parliament. He won his first election at 25, representing a district in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Scheer had moved from Ottawa to Saskatchewan to be with his wife, Jill, a native of that province, and has assumed his wife’s family love for football. Her brother is Jon Ryan, a former punter for the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks.

While his campaign portrays him as the common man, Scheer has spent almost all his adult life as a member of Parliament with the perks that come with it, including free housing, a car and a driver when he was House speaker and opposition leader.

“Yes, he’s been in Parliament since 25, but his parents are very middle-class people. His family didn’t own a car,” Baird said. “He’s very grounded. And frankly that’s the Conservative party. We’re not a party of downtown elites.”

Scheer didn’t win his own party’s leadership until the 13th ballot. He was most people’s second choice.

“He’s a guy who has always been underestimated,” Kenney said. “He’s smiling all the time. He’s got terrific dimples and sometimes people infer from that he’s not serious, which is not true.”

Ian Brodie, a former chief of staff to Canada’s previous Conservative prime minister, said Scheer won’t have to face the same expectations as Trudeau, who was viewed as the heir to Obama’s progressive mantle.

“Nobody is expecting him to be the international leader of progressive forces, or anything else for that matter,” Brodie said.

The relationship between the U.S. and Canada would not be expected to change much as Scheer won’t risk renegotiating the new free trade agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump.

MacDougall said Scheer knows he has to make the U.S. relationship work as Trudeau did. Canada relies on the U.S. for 75 percent of its exports.

He added: “If Canada goes back to being a more modest presence on the stage, that kind of fits of who we are as a country, but doesn’t mean we can’t be effective.”

Sen. Ron Johnson: Clinton-Ukraine collusion allegations remain unaddressed by media

The lack of media attention into alleged Ukrainian involvement in the 2016 election leaves many questions unanswered, according to Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis.

The eastern European country has been widely discussed since House Democrats opened an impeachment inquiry into President Trump over his phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

In the interview on Mark Levin‘s “Life, Liberty & Levin,” Johnson referenced a 2017 Politico report by Kenneth Vogel that described unconfirmed claims about the Hillary Clinton campaign working with Ukrainian officials during the term of then-President Petro Poroshenko.

Vogel — who now writes for The New York Times — reported that Ukrainian officials “tried to help” former Secretary of State’s bid for president by questioning Trump’s fitness for office and doing opposition research on the former real estate mogul.

MARK LEVIN BLASTS MEDIA’S UKRAINE NARRATIVE, CLAIMS TRANSCRIPT DESTROYS BIDEN ‘FAVOR’ ARGUMENT

“He’s talking about the potential of the Hillary Clinton campaign and the DNC [Democratic National Committee] involvement, working with potentially corrupt actors in Ukraine, trying to dig up dirt on President Trump — or candidate Trump at that point in time — [and] Paul Manafort,” Johnson said, referring to Vogel.

Johnson said he was not making allegations or accusing anyone of wrongdoing, but instead raising questions as to why the media has not comprehensively looked into it yet.

More from Media

“Is it just possible or plausible that maybe the DNC — maybe the Hillary Clinton campaign — was also trying to dig up dirt on Joe Biden back then in Ukraine?” he asked, speculating that Biden may have been considering a Democratic primary run against Clinton that year.

“So, no, there are so many questions. I’m really not throwing out any accusations. I’m not making any allegations,” Johnson said.

BIDEN’S CAMPAIGN LIKELY COMING TO AN END — THANKS TO CLINTON-LINKED UKRAINE BOMBSHELL, NUNES SAYS

Johnson, who chairs the Senate Homeland Security Committee, criticized the media for showing little interest in those questions.

“There are so many questions that remain unanswered, and they really remain unanswered because, by and large, the press has no curiosity about trying to get the answers to these things,” he said.

Later in the interview, Levin asked Johnson about claims that Ukraine’s prior administration wanted Clinton to win in 2016 instead of Trump.

“They were probably making a bet,” Johnson said. “They thought Hillary Clinton had the best chance of becoming president. And, to Ukraine — I don’t care who you are in Ukraine, in their government — the relationship with America is pretty darn important. So you understand what their motivation would be there.”

Johnson rejected the claim that Trump’s campaign colluded with Russian actors, saying he believed allegations the Clinton campaign was linked to the Steele dossier would tell a different story.

“When people say that the only campaign that was literally cooperating and colluding with a foreign government — it wasn’t the Trump campaign, it was the Hillary Clinton campaign,” he said.

‘Habitual runaway’ emu being sought by Minnesota sheriff’s deputies

Deputies with a Minnesota sheriff’s office say they are searching for a “habitual runaway” emu who has eluded capture after disappearing — again.

The deputies, who are with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, said on Facebook Saturday that the emu disappeared in Foley with another emu and a dog.

“Emu #1 and his canine accomplice turned themselves in without incident,” they wrote. “Emu #2 however had other plans and remains at large.”

Deputies in Benton County, Minn., said the emu in this photo has been reported missing by its owner, prompting a search by law enforcement.

In announcing the law enforcement search for the missing emu, deputies said the bird was “wanted for questioning for being a habitual runaway.”

Their Facebook post advised, “do not approach the subject as he may be violent” and then added, “All jokes aside, this emu is missing from a local property in the Foley area. If spotted, please give us a call so we can return him safely to his already identified owner.”

McDonald’s security guard allegedly calls customer ‘stupid white boy,’ punches his table

A McDonald’s customer claims that they were harassed and insulted by a McDonald’s security guard who apparently didn’t believe that they were using the app to order food.

The incident occurred at a McDonald’s in Gipsyville in England on Friday night. According to reports, a security guard assumed that a group of young people who used the McDonald’s app to order had not actually ordered any food.

Cameron Sande told a local news outlet that the guard became aggressive with him and his friends, insulted them and even punched the table at one point.

Cameron Sande and his friends entered the restaurant, sat down at a table and used the app to order their meals, the Mirror reports. A security guard reportedly approached the table, assuming that they weren’t getting any food and told them to leave.

Sande claims that the guard became aggressive and allegedly punched the table during the confrontation.

“I was getting angry, my friends were scared and anxious. He called me a stupid white boy. If it was the other way around I would get done for racism,” Sande told Hull Live.

“He was being abusive and racist to us,” Sande continued. “The manager said to him to calm down and told him we were ordering from our phones. He started putting his hands in the air and laughing. When I was telling the manager what had happened he was trying to scare me into not telling him. I told the manager about him punching the table and he denied it. Bruce Ashford: Beto’s attack on religious liberty not just wrong but disastrous — here are four reasons why

Democratic presidential candidates have spent the last few months introducing a rucksack of new policy proposals, some of which, if implemented, would be incredibly harmful.

One of those proposals came from former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke, who argued that religious institutions must be stripped of their tax-exempt status if they oppose same-sex marriage.

This is, sadly, not the first time that people of faith have been alerted to the punishment that some on the political Left wish to mete out to dissenters.

JEREMY DYS: RELIGIOUS FREEDOM COURAGEOUSLY DEFENDED BY AG WILLIAM BARR AGAINST MILITANT SECULARISTS

In a statement attached to the document “Peaceful Coexistence,” Martin Castro, chairman of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, argued that religious believers use phrases such as religious liberty as “code words for discrimination, intolerance, racism, sexism, homophobia, Islamophobia [and] Christian supremacy.”

The message from O’Rourke and Castro is clear, and it is shared by many Democratic progressives: Religious liberty has got to go.

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR OPINION NEWSLETTER

The underlying assumption here is that a Christian’s disagreement about marriage or sexuality necessarily represents hatred, fear or bigotry. Sadly, too many religious people have expressed hatred toward LGBT people, giving credence to this assumption. We Christians must oppose this bigotry wherever we find it.

More from Opinion

The result of a genuinely Christian view of marriage and sexuality, however, is not bigotry, but wholeness. And Christianity disallows any type of hatred or disrespect.

O’Rourke and Castro seem uninterested in this distinction. And if their ilk win the day, Christians will be punished for their beliefs.

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito saw this coming. In his dissenting opinion to Obergefell v. Hodges, he wrote, “I assume that those who cling to old beliefs will be able to whisper their thoughts in the recesses of their homes, but if they repeat those views in public, they will risk being labeled as bigots and treated as such by governments, employers, and schools.”

What is wrong with progressive proposals such as O’Rourke’s? At least four things.

First, they violate the First Amendment and the many court opinions which make clear that groups cannot be denied tax-exemption based upon their viewpoints.

The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution declares, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” Significantly, the First Amendment does not confine religious liberty to privately held beliefs or semi-public worship services. The Constitution is clear: Religious freedom extends to public actions.

Second, proposals such as O’Rourke’s threaten not only religious freedom but other freedoms as well.

When religious freedom is threatened, every other freedom is threatened as well. If religious liberty falls, so will freedom of speech, press and associations.

Religious liberty is called the “first freedom” because it gets to the heart of what it means to be human. It declares each person is free to hold his or her own convictions about ultimate reality, to align his or her life with those convictions, and to do so openly and without fear.

Those who are not religious may not care about religious freedom. But they should. When religious freedom is threatened, every other freedom is threatened as well. If religious liberty falls, so will freedom of speech, press and associations.

Third, O’Rourke’s view would create negative repercussions not only for churches, but also for other institutions.

For example, consider the implications for religiously conservative institutions of higher education. Many of these colleges and seminaries have confessional statements that conflict with the reigning progressive prejudices concerning, for example, sexual behavior or abortifacient contraceptives.

Were progressive restrictions on religious liberty take hold, the stripping of tax-exempt status would only be the start. Eventually, these institutions would be forced to forfeit their regional accreditation and will lose enormous amounts of additional revenue because of the “donor stigma” associated with giving to conservative causes.

Fourth, and most importantly, when religious liberty is restricted, the entire nation suffers.

O’Rourke thinks he is promoting a world in which he would like to live. He is not. He is, in fact, promoting one version of one religious worldview — the unique secular progressivism of 2019. He would like this worldview to have a hearing in the public square, while other competing worldviews are censured or silenced.

Ironically for O’Rourke and other secular progressives, the day will come when the concerns of today’s secular progressives will not reflect the concerns of tomorrow’s progressives. Then it will be they — today’s secular progressives — whose liberties will be curtailed. It will be their fault; they struck the blow to liberty.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

An attack on liberty always harms more than those who are immediately involved. For that reason, Americans on the Left and Right should reject any and every threat to religious liberty.

And we must support every American’s right to hold his or her own convictions about ultimate reality, to align his or her life with those convictions, and to do so openly and without fear.

Chile riots leave 3 dead in supermarket fire as curfew declared, president reverses subway fare hikes

Three people were killed after a supermarket in Chile’s capital was looted and burned Saturday amid riots that stretched for a second day, triggering the country’s president to declare a state of emergency and suspend a planned subway fare hike that prompted the violent outbreaks.

The Chilean Army declared a curfew in Santiago between 10 p.m. on Saturday and 7 a.m. on Sunday in an effort to stem the violent unrest that has overtaken the city this week, causing subway service to be suspended since Friday.

Santiago Mayor Karla Rubilar said late Saturday at a news conference that three people died in a fire at a supermarket that was set by demonstrators, including two who burned to death inside.

“We regret to inform that, according to preliminary information from Chilean police, two people were found fatally burned in San Bernardo and a seriously injured person was moved to hospital where they died,” she said on Twitter.

CHILE’S PRESIDENT ROLLS BACK SUBWAY FARE HIKE AMID PROTESTS

Chilean President Sebastián Piñera said late Saturday he was revisiting the subway fare hike from the equivalent $1.12 to $1.16 that prompted the violent student protests. At least 78 subway stations in the capital have been damaged, including infrastructure and equipment.

“I have heard with humility the voice of my compatriots,” Piñera said before announcing that “we are going to suspend” the fare hike.

The protest by students began on Monday when hundreds of young people mobbed several metro stations in Santiago, jumping over or dipping under turnstiles in a fare-dodging protest against the 4 percent increase in fares.

The protests against the subway fare hike have since escalated into rampant violence, with thousands of students burning subway stations and damaging dozens of others, and some protesters setting fire to a high-rise energy company building on Friday. Officials reported 156 police officers and 11 civilians injured and more than 300 people arrested.

The unrest has spread to other cities across the country, including the port city of Valparaiso where the government declared military rule late Saturday, according to Reuters. Walmart said in a statement that 60 of its stores in Santiago and six other cities suffered looting.

“We invite all citizens to return to their homes and to evaluate the measures that the government has arranged and cooperate, to protect their family, their integrity and their own assets,” said General Javier Iturriaga del Campo, the military officer put in charge of establishing order in Santiago.
