JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Authorities are investigating a deadly car fire that occurred on Monday afternoon along U.S. 49.

According to Hinds County Interim Coroner Jeramiah Howard, a person was driving a silver Mazda northbound when they struck a Natchez Trace Parkway pillar.

The vehicle burst into flames and was fully involved. The driver was the only person in the vehicle.

The Jackson Fire Department and Jackson Police Department responded to the scene.

The body was burned beyond recognition. The remains are being sent to the State Crime Lab for identification purposes.
