YAZOO CITY, Miss. (WLBT) – One person is dead following a weekend shooting in Yazoo City.

The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Andrew Jackson.

Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers says Jackson was shot twice.

The fatal shooting happened around 4 a.m. Saturday at the Yazoo Estates Apartment Complex.

Police Chief Terry Gann said Jackson and two others were driving into the complex when suddenly, more than a dozen gunshots were fired.

“Everything is pointing to this being an ambush,” said Chief Terry Gann. “As they drove into the apartment complex, someone opened fire on them from behind one of the buildings.”

According to the chief, the shooting was targeted.

At this time, police are still searching for a motive and the suspects.

Gann says they have multiple persons of interest in mind.

Investigators are continuing to collect clues and evidence to help piece together exactly what happened.

“It is a senseless act of taking somebody’s life,” said Gann. “This is a son, probably a brother to someone. From what I understand, he was known by a few of the officers as a friend.”

So far, the investigation has revealed that Jackson was the driver.

The other passengers were not injured.

“It is our number one goal to solve this quickly,” said Gann.

This is still an ongoing investigation.

If anyone has information on this homicide, you are asked to contact the Yazoo City Police Department.
