2 dead, 1 injured in Jefferson Davis Co. shooting; suspect still at-large
JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – A shooting in Jefferson Davis County left two women dead and one man critically injured.
The Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident on Thursday afternoon along the southern end of Mississippi Highway 541 (Clem Road).
Chief Deputy Frank Riley said investigators believe an altercation took place between an unidentified person and two women in a car. The situation escalated until the person shot and killed both women.
Riley said another car drove up to the scene while the shooting was happening. The gunman fired at the other vehicle, critically injuring the driver.
Riley reported that an emergency medical team transported the driver by helicopter to a hospital in Jackson.
The shooter fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
According to Riley, investigators have been able to ID a suspect and hope to make an arrest either today or tomorrow. He said that the shooter will face two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
The Jefferson Davis County Coroner confirmed that the families of the two deceased victims have been notified. However, her office would not release their identities at this time.
The coroner did report that the victims were both Black females. Their official causes of death are pending the results of autopsies.
Riley said the injured driver remains in the hospital.
