12 inmates take steps toward a new life with baptism at Perry Co. Jail
Richton’s First Pentecostal Church has baptized more than 80 inmates through its “jail ministry.”
PERRY COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – Several inmates at the Perry County jail made the first steps toward turning over a new leaf in life.
Twelve inmates were baptized Friday at the jail.
Inmates received baptism through the First Pentecostal Church’s “jail ministry” program.
“I know a couple of them personally that I’ve been talking with,” Sheriff Jacob Garner said. “I really think they’ve got their hearts right this time and are going to move forward with it.”
The Richton-based church formed the program seven years ago.
Church leaders provide support and guidance to inmates and their families during and after incarceration.
“It’s supposed to be a hospital for the hurting and a place of help when people need it,” Pastor Shane Giadrosich said. “That’s what we try to do at our church, love and help people and give them hope.”
Since the program’s formation, the church has baptized more than 80 inmates.
